The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

I thought that at least since 2002, in NYC, alterations to clothing have not been subject to sales/use tax, no?

Hardly any agony -just another unsatisfactory experience. They come and go. Will check back in 6 months or so to witness the emergence of the new Luxire - good luck!

Learning from my own experience here. It's been 2 months and 8 days since I placed my order for a pair of shorts (US$180); already came from that Caribbean vacation a month ago; in the meantime, received 2 emails from your company promising the shipment "next week" and then your company stopped...

    Ambrosi Napoli

Doesn't look like these pants are cut for a belt. There's only one belt loop there to support the extended waistband.

The price is what the seller says it is. If you think it's too high, don't buy the option.

I also have a grey pique shirt made by Luxire and 2 Kent Wang's polos. The shirt is okay, the measurements are spot on, but the collar "collapses," it doesn't hold its shape properly, so I wear that shirt very infrequently. The KW polos are my hands down favorites in the summer. To be fair...

I just can't see any nefarious intentions here. What would they possibly be?

    Meermin Mallorca Shoes

I see you've learned a couple of things in your life, my little vulgarian. Sorry to inform you that you appear to have managed to do it wrong in each case. My width is medium, which is an F, I think, in Church's. The meermin last is narrower, and these particular shoes are size 7 US, not 7...

Hmm... All of my GFs have always done my laundry or dry cleaning.. no complaints ever... not a single shirt ever ruined or shrunk... and what the heck is zeolite?? sounds like an STD...

    Meermin Mallorca Shoes

I was unfortunate enough to have purchased a pair of their brown tassel loafers listed as size 7 UK. I have 5 pairs of Churches all in size 7 and 3 pairs of Loakes, also in size 7. The loafers are smaller.

    Meermin Mallorca Shoes

I bought a pair of their loafers, wore them yesterday for the first time and got the worst blisters I've ever had. The last is very narrow, the left and the right shoe look asymmetrical, the actual size runs much smaller than advertized, and just the way they build their shoes is totally...

Totally agreed. For sleeves pick something with stripes and/or smalll checks which is tasteful but somewhat unique - that, indeed, could be your signature.

Hmm.. Very odd shoulder padding... Also, do my eyes betray me or is the right lapel wider than the left?

     Or ill-proportioned.

When you raise the rise, your waist measurement, as a general proposition, should slightly increase. You, however, are simultaneously decreasing it. Your pants might turn out to be too tight in the waist.

"While Ambrosi pants look natural the Luxire one doesn't." I completely agree.

Completely agreed. Sending a sample to the customer and adjusting it collaboratively based on pictures of how it fits is the only way to do it right. Anything else (short of a basted fitting which won't be happening for apparent reasons) simply won't work.
