I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

It sounds like full canvassing (and to a lesser degree, half canvassing) is a proxy for a number of expensive, labor-intensive steps in traditional suitmaking. Like the Goodyear welt on quality shoes--there are other methods of shoe construction that are as good, or arguably better, and the...

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

I just made my own empirical observations using the pinch test with three of my suits: a Brooks Brothers fully canvassed suit, a Brooks Brothers 1818 suit (made in USA of imported fabric, bought in 2014 at a retail store in the USA), and the JAB Sig Gold suit I complained about in the OP. I am...

Good discussion. I'm interested in getting to the bottom of this.

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

Fantastic article! Thank you--that's just what I was looking for. Interesting that it states that, even regarding the lesser type of half-canvassed suit that includes fusing, that the "Potential for rippling or bubbling is somewhat mitigated due to the canvassing – thus, promoting greater...

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

Well let's be clear. I paid my tailor $130 when I bought it to custom tailor it to fit me. He modified the jacket's chest, waist, and padding in the shoulders, in addition to finishing the sleeves (and cuffing the pants and adjusting their waist and seat). Looking back on it, that was a waste...

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

Thanks for your thread--I've been reading it with interest. I unfortunately didn't take a picture of the bubbling. After the tailor pressed it with high heat, it actually went back together better than I expected. I wore the suit this weekend and it didn't look half bad.

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

Now I'm worried about sending my 1818 Brooks Brothers suit to the cleaners. Should I be? Anyone ever experienced bubbling on that line?

Thanks I'll look for those. If you're able to point me to some of his posts, that would be appreciated. It looked fine before its last trip to the cleaners.

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

Hey all I've been getting tons of good advice from these forums for years--thanks. I'm really steamed that my first--and last--Jos. A Bank suit is bubbling in the upper chest on both sides. It's a Signature Gold. Their website at the time I bought it two years ago explicitly said it's...

Mystery Brooks Brothers Suit on Rue La La?

Hi everyone. First post. I need advice on which Brooks Brothers suit is better, a de-labeled/recalled/liquidated/mystery Southwick Golden Fleece, or a proper 1818 for $50 more. I bought them both on Rue La La and only plan to keep one. 1) The de-labeled Golden Fleece is full canvas, navy...
