With my McAllisters and Strands being my first AE shoes, I'm not entirely educated about the recrafting. Additionally they are my first "real" shoes- I've never had leather soles or anything else AE does for that matter. I know about rotating them, but how do I know when they are due for...- optopi314

The ripples are actually raised. As long as the leather isn't defective I am fine. I know with use they are going to not be perfect any longer. Like I said, I don't want to start off with defective leather that will reduce their lifespan. I'll make sure to condition the scaly part regularly...- optopi314

The mark doesn't bother me as much as the leather scaling and ripples. Should I worry about the leather integrity? Or are they just natural parts of lighter leather and/or the manufacturing process.- optopi314

I had defective Strands that I returned. I picked up their replacements and noticed that the leather looks weird in spots- sort of scaly. I also noticed that there are some ripples in the leather. So the new Strands I have have messed up broguing. Some of the holes were not punched out properly and if you look under them, it is a light tan color. Thanks. It's for optometry school so not super fancy dress up- just relaxed business casual shirt/tie/slacks/shoes which is why I tried to go for these as opposed to others.
