Thank you very much! Just what I was looking for in terms of advice!

With my McAllisters and Strands being my first AE shoes, I'm not entirely educated about the recrafting. Additionally they are my first "real" shoes- I've never had leather soles or anything else AE does for that matter. I know about rotating them, but how do I know when they are due for...

Do you do most of your AEs as straight lacing or do you reserve it more for formal styles?

Thanks! Now once this disgusting weather clears out of the northeast I can wear them out and about. Look forward to wearing them considering how comfortable my McAllisters are and they aren't even broken in yet!

The ripples are actually raised. As long as the leather isn't defective I am fine. I know with use they are going to not be perfect any longer. Like I said, I don't want to start off with defective leather that will reduce their lifespan. I'll make sure to condition the scaly part regularly...

The mark doesn't bother me as much as the leather scaling and ripples. Should I worry about the leather integrity? Or are they just natural parts of lighter leather and/or the manufacturing process.

I had defective Strands that I returned. I picked up their replacements and noticed that the leather looks weird in spots- sort of scaly. I also noticed that there are some ripples in the leather. I also noticed a streak that looks like a pen mark. I can deal with the last one. The other two...

So the new Strands I have have messed up broguing. Some of the holes were not punched out properly and if you look under them, it is a light tan color. On the other side of the shoe from where the punches were messed up, the broguing is oblong. It seems like QC was out to lunch when these were...

I bought a pair of black Eccos for my interview before I knew about AE (they are of the same style as the Leeds (I also realized I shouldn't have gone with a derby shoe for the interview either!)). While they look okay and while they feel like sneakers, I've realized that they are nothing...

Thanks. It's for optometry school so not super fancy dress up- just relaxed business casual shirt/tie/slacks/shoes which is why I tried to go for these as opposed to others. Hopefully I made wise choices in that regard! Definitely going to invest in more when I get towards the end as it goes...

    Introduce yourself.

Optopi here (read as opto-pie, not opt-opee). Just turned 27 not too long ago and realized that I need to dress better. I've been sick of wearing jeans, sneakers, and t-shirts and have been upgrading my wardrobe. I look forward to getting some tips from here!

In an effort to upgrade my dress, I decided to invest in some Allen Edmonds. I knew I needed a major upgrade from my Bostonian Ultralight shoes. I guess I watch too much of the TV show Royal Pains, but I just love the contrast of walnut colored shoes with navy and grey trousers/suits. I decided...
