They primary difference between the Shoemaker and 1880 shoes is attention to detail (eg fancy squiggly bits on the sole!). I have several of both and and also "Design" Loakes. There is a difference when you drop "down" to the L1 range, but they're still good, everyday shoes and better than...- AlanFM
