Has anyone experience of the Peebles - the newish Russian grain derby. Would like to learn from a wearer how it's holding up. I tried one for size myself and am tempted. The Radnor boot sibling is a beauty, but I already have a Coniston, a Purdy dark brown "Coniston version" and a Harlech ( more...

I have both the Coniston and the Purdey boot in question. I have no complaints about the Purdey boot despite the slightly thiner dainite sole. Coniston is stamped: 8637 94B 8 U E U21790 ( purchased in 2001 ). Pudey boot is stamped: 8637 99BE 8E K1320 ( purchased 2013 ). Make of...

Re. Pudey quality. Have no hesitation on Purdey quality. Their 325 last in dark brown is standing up well. Can recommend it without qualification. Hey CTBrummie ! Your Pickering : a Coniston - but not as we now know it. This was the shade they were produced in some ten years ago. A great shade.

Any opinions of the Purdey boot from recent purchasers? Personally I very happy with this discretely elegant boot, though I still prefer my more ostentatious, honey-leathered Coniston - 2001 vintage, ( a much lighter shade than current Coniston).

"the best way that I've found is to order directly from the Jermyn St store" Just a heads up, folks. A call to C&J Royal Exchange today informed me prices will rise by 6% ( on average ) this coming Monday. Time to order before the rise?

Yes, she is a most engaging lady. Always shows interest and enthusiasm in her customer's footwear, even it is is not C&J. SKM: Well corrected..... What I should have said was that they have stood the test of time. Quality will out. And isn't the Harlech the most elegant boot!

Pickering boot, made for Purdey. Loving the crimped storm welt, the half-bellows tongue and also the colour - this is, I think, C&J's 'beige country calf' which sounds really insipid but is fantastic IMHO Yes, a beautiful shade. Great shine on the toecaps! This it seems to me to be the shade of...

Yes, a slightly narrower last ( it is a Coniston-lasted (325) MTO by Crockett for Purdey to retail ). Today I compared the Purdey ( unbrogued version) to the Islay and the Coniston in a shop. The Purdey ( which I was wearing) is a modified version of Crockett's standard Coniston. The dainite...

Ah, the summer...... I would be very interested to hear you opinions on your new cordovan Harvards. I ordered the cordovan Henley some time back. They had double leather soles and consequently were so heavy to wear as a summer shoe I had to return them. They were in burgundy, perfectly matched...

"I got the last number wrong as well- the ones that I tried that fit were on a 341 last, in an Oxford, although the C&J manager assured me that if the Oxford shoe fit me in the right size, then a boot would fit the same. It looks like I won't be able to save money by getting the Purdeys- I'll...

A rather unseasonal topic... I'm planning some spring / summer footwear, and in particular, loafers. I"ve always opted for Bally in the past to cater for this niche. But Bally are not what they once were. Last year I ordered Crockett and Jones "Henley" cordovan loafer. A well-crafted shoe, in...

Hi, t44tq. I've had my Pudey boots some weeks now. I alternate them with my Coniston, my Harlech and my Cheaney Cairngorms (derby veldtschoens - a D fitting, now discontinued). They are indeed made by Crockett and have the same pattern number stamped inside as the Coniston. They are not a "D"...

"Hi there. Sorry to reference such an old post but I was looking through the thread for info on the Purdey boots and saw your post from October. Did you decide to keep them? If you did then presumably they are getting nicely worn in - how is the leather aging? If you do still have them do you...

Must agree. I bought a pair of Purdy dark brown grain boots some weeks ago. They are made on the same last as the Coniston (325). I found them more elegant than the brogued Islay, which I found rather stumpy - the brogue toecap is too foreshortened for my taste. If you have the Coniston, as I...

Yes, you are, of course, correct. I should have looked at the speed hooks. I was misled by the colour of the boot in the photograph. I tried on a pair of Islays some weeks ago and they seemed to me to be dark brown. I was put off by the brogueing and went for the Purdey version of scotch grain...

Just received delivery of my Purdey scotch grain boots. Not as heavy as my Coniston, thinner dainite sole. I think the leather is not as good quality, but my Coniston were made ten years ago - perhaps standards have slipped, or maybe Purdey contracted Crockett and Jones to downgrade the leather...

New to the forum, but not to Crockett and Jones footwear. Just curious about the CTBrummie last post. I don't recognise those boots as Islay or Mallory. Can this be clarified? The first looks like Skye. I don't recognise the second. Very like a Coniston. Would like to know...... I have had my...
