How much muscle mass affects fit?

You’ll notice some muscular development in the shoulders, chest, back and quads. And possibly a drop in waist size depending on where you were initially. I’m guessing those slim fit dress shirts will now be too tight-fitting. But the blazers and pants will start to feel more snug. If you’re...

Are there rules for matching / complementing patterns?

IMO anyone of those 3 makes a better option to go with your grey herringbone coat.

Are there rules for matching / complementing patterns?

I have a very similar-looking herringbone peacoat. IMO the herringbone pattern offers more of a texture, subtle enough to avoid clashing with the bolder checks on the scarf. I’m not too confident about that cap though; doesn’t seem like a good fit. IMO mixing cool with warm tones in an outfit...

Do you think white sneakers are necessary for a man to be in possession of?

Necessary? Not at all. But if the style works for you, sure why not? Run with it. And no, they don’t go with everything. There’s always a classier alternative.

What do you rhink of this overshirt?

Not the most stylish of outerwear but it’s functional I suppose.

Is it acceptable to use a suit jacket as a blazer if I no longer have the suit pants?

Probably not as well as we’d like. Most formal suit jackets tend to (not always) have longer skirts than their more casual ‘sports’ counterparts.

Which ties to go with these 2 suits?

I’d go with a plain or subtly patterned/textured dark tie to showcase the microchecks on the first suit. For the windowpane suit (what’s up with the bizarrely short sleeves?) , I’d pick a tie with smaller square patterns or perhaps a Prince of Wales checks. But unlike those pics (from Suit...

Can't quite get this right - pants with bow legs

Old thread, I know. I have pretty much similar legs. Tailored pants definitely make better friends as long as your tailor is up to the challenge. For RTW look for legs with gentler tapers and minimal breaks. Photo-wise you’ll always look better to keep those feet apart, heels in and toes out to...

    Savile Row House Styles Guide

A lot has already been written on the various Savile Row styles; I’m not so sure if bringing them all under one thread is a good idea. Every house has its own quirks, either by virtue of tradition or in-house tailors’ own stylistic preferences. I wouldn’t necessarily call one better than...

    Extended Shoulder Supremacy

Ah, my apologies for my poor choice of words. This is indeed a much better picture. Perhaps the extended shoulder works better on a DB with its more rigid structure.

    Extended Shoulder Supremacy

Is this a pic of a real person or one of those armless mannequins in certain tailorshops? Either the arms are missing or the shoulders are overpadded and over-extended. Personally I feel whichever tailoring tweaks one chooses they must at least flatter the wearer’s body and minimize its...

Menswear n00b mistakes and pitfalls, and how to avoid them

Great advice, everyone! Here’s one more: For every social occasion you’re planning on attending decide where you’d like to stand on the comfort vs style spectrum. It does not always have to be a trade off, for the sharp dressers among us have learnt to expand their ‘comfort zones’.

    Introduce yourself.

Greetings from sunny Singapore. I'm a 42 year old professional and a father of two. The default mode of dressing for guys here is T-shirts and jeans/berms for casual, shirt and tie for work. It's too predictable and dead boring. For the past few years I have acquired an appreciation for more...
