Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I’ve actually requested a commission from Sartoria Pasinato in the Drapers 4-ply and I can personally vouch for how amazing this fabric is, so much that I have requested a second commission in the same fabric (different colour). It is weighty but feels cool and drapes phenomenally well -...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I have that exact Dugdale fabric. It is a good option if you're after a 10oz fabric. It is a good all-rounder when it is not too hot or not too cold (in London anyway), drape fairly well and hold the crease. Unfortunately after two years of solid wear, worn at least once a week, I have just...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I’ve been reading through this thread at length but there seems to be a varying opinion on 13oz plain cloths. I’ve been looking at samples from S&W (Botany) and H. Lesser in both twills and sharkskins. The Lesser feels a little nicer but I know looks (read that as feels ;-) ) can be deceiving...

    Sartoria in Napoli ?

Any recent experience with Marco? Interesting reading the thread - Simon makes a few posts about him and his prices double... Bespoke really is a fickle world.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I have experience with the heavier Fox hopsack and can say that they make for a great jacket. The one I have is 16oz in a dark navy colour. It does not wear particularly warm, like an equivalent flannel or tweed, but it drapes wonderfully and has a great texture. Link here...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

Curious on the jacket length, it looks a little short. Love the lapels though, gives it a real vintage roaring 20's look, and the buttoning position looks perfect; I prefer it a little higher on a dinner jacket. But for God's sake man, get some opera pumps ;-)

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

Does anyone have experience with the H&S City of London (HS1862) bunch? I have seen a beautiful dark grey (6218046) and was thinking of having it made up for a business suit but wasn't sure on durability. At 13oz I expect it to be solid. I also see that the S&W Botany is popular. Any...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

On the topic of opera pumps, does anyone know where to get a decent pair in calf leather with a satin bow? BB are calf but with grosgrain. Most others I have found are patent leather...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

"Black-tie shirts are traditionally closed with two to three studs depending on the wearer’s height although it should be noted that some classic etiquette authorities limited studs to stiff-front shirts only and prescribed pearl buttons for soft-front models instead." From the Black Tie Guide...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

@UrbanComposition You have seriously got your style down my man, congratulations. You're looking super comfortable in that; good drape on the arms and trousers. Opera pumps also looking excellent. Curious about your opinion on the link button on your dinner jacket. Would you recommend? Just...

    E.G. Cappelli Store now LIVE!

That is an incredible tie and knot. May I ask, what weight interlining do you use and how many folds the tie has? I just can't seem to get that type of knot on my Cappelli ties (especially the twill ones) whereas I easily do on my Shibumi ties and was curious if it was down to the interlining used.

Luxire Custom Clothing - Official Affiliate Thread

@luxire @LuxireStudio Do you have any medium or heavy (250g+) fabric in cotton drill / twill for some Gurkha shorts in a colour similar to the attached? I would describe it as a light sand.

Would you be able to share an example? In the photo the colour looks excellent as a substitute for pure white chin fabric. I have that same fabric on hold so keen to see how bad the translucent issue is.

Luxire Custom Clothing - Official Affiliate Thread

Is the current mid grey offering (https://luxire.com/products/vitale-barberis-canonico-4-ply-tropical-wool-mid-grey#/) similar in colour to the Dugdale Grey Fine Worsted (8961)? The brown line look excellent by the way, I would definitely be interested.

    East Sicily Tailors

Hi All, My wife and I are going to Sicily (from London) in May. Typically we go to Taormina but I have convinced her that she should allow me to visit a few tailors. Excellent choice of wife obviously ;-) I love the examples from Arrigo on here, he looks like excellent value and he is situated...

Agreed. It took me 4 iterations of the same recommendation in small increments to get the fit to a better place, generally 0.25" at a time.
