    I see it because you pointed it out. If it will bother you then definitely return them. I agree with the previous 'wabi sabi' posts and I would like them all the more for showing just a hint of unique character and not being machine made.

    I suppose that is possible. Getting oil within the bone matrix would be much easier if it was done prior to killing the animal, under deep anesthesia of course, through a microvascular perfusion. Once the bone is harvested, removed of soft tissue, and dried, soaking in oil should only penetrate...

     I am a professor of anatomy and physiology. I've spent a lot of time with a lot of bone and can tell you all about the molecular structure, etc. I can also assure you that bone does not have any oils to transfer. Any oils one might see when boning are being squeezed from the cordovan.

    or just use any smooth, not cold, hard object. A smooth plastic pot scraper, back of a warm spoon... There is nothing special about bone, despite the hype. It is hard, smooth, and close to room temperature - qualities that can be found in many objects.
