Leather Jackets: Post Pictures of the Best You've Seen/Owned?

As size grading has changed over the years this is actually tagged a 42 and I'm usually about a M or 39. The pit to pit was about 21" and the rest of the measurements line up with a current size 40 cyclone tight fit with slightly fuller sleeves. I could fit a sweat or knit under it no problem...

Leather Jackets: Post Pictures of the Best You've Seen/Owned?

Old fit shots of my late 70s/early 80s Super monza, wish I had better pictures but the jacket is no longer with me. The leather on this particular jacket was slightly heavier than modern iterations If I recall but has been treated the same and had the same characteristics-most notably the...

Leather Jackets: Post Pictures of the Best You've Seen/Owned?

If you're using celebs to gauge a jacket makers worth, then Lewis Leathers wins hands down... that and the racing history and cafe racer culture with it. I don't think they're easy brands to compare as they offer quite different products. Regards leather choices Aero offer a much larger range...

Leather Jackets: Post Pictures of the Best You've Seen/Owned?

Lewis leathers racing jacket no.442 They offer mtm, a wide colour range of calf and have added horsehide as an option for some styles I believe. Very good water resistance and very supple for a heavy leather.

Don't get me wrong I'm in agreement about the banded hem - especially on the front. It takes a 50s racing shirt style and makes it too 70s(?) It visually makes the jacket appear shorter also and impacts on the sharpness of a clean panel. Just trying to put out some ideas that allows the details...

If the compromise here would be a banded hem on the body I could deal with that I guess...Do prefer the cleaner front though. Not sure on the exact details of the double Rider back-Is it similar to what I've done below? Excuse the rushed PS jobs Maybe changing the rear banded hem to a...

Vanson/Styleforum/Thurston Bros Japanese slim fit Japanese moto jacket MTO

The pocket placement and slim fit are the defining elements for me. Reminds me of old racing suits you'd see in the Isle of Man TT That combined with front facing sleeve zips and hardwear details like an exposed front double zip provides plenty of visual interest in my opinion. The back...

From an enquiry I made to Vanson about 18 months ago regards the x150: "X150 is a propriety leather made exclusively for Vanson. It is steer hide tanned using waxes, proteins and chromium salts. The thickness is about 3oz and it breaks in really nice!" If i'm not mistaken the Daytona model seen...

Vanson/Styleforum/Thurston Bros Japanese slim fit Japanese moto jacket MTO

Regards the inside, I think having a thicker strip of leather along the hem would work - allowing the stitching to sit closer to the hem creating a cleaner line. Something like below left. Is the general preference for a snap back collar? I consider that the better option and part of the appeal...

Vanson/Styleforum/Thurston Bros Japanese slim fit Japanese moto jacket MTO

I think the Daytona Model would provide a good base design with the following adjustments: 1: Curved/Slanted Snap back collar (Vaj3/continental comet) 2: Full front length double zip to hem (Vaj3/model b) - Visible (a) and not concealed (b) ab 3: Front facing sleeve zips 4: Remove the...

The mock ups used a cyclone as it's base so the proportions are off regards lapel size and the cut of the breast/main zip line. I won't go flooding the thread with the same images just slightly adjusted (and I may also have some work to do) but I'll add these two images: The first as previous...

Vanson/Styleforum/Thurston Bros slim fit Japanese double rider MTO

1st Same as before with slighter higher handwarmer pockets. 2nd Higher again handwarmers & chest pocket adjusted to be closer to the Derby/Junya version. Banded hem cleaned up to be a solid panel. Pocket lengths/angles a bit off, but hope it provides a crude impression. Edit: I just took...

The Junya look really tight fit in motion. I think it should also be noted that the fit photos are with the zip partially zipped as far as I can tell. Junya show: xmJhDKLXZIo

The junya analogue doesn't appear a million miles away. As said the mid back and shoulders are the main tweaking points, albeit by very little, the sleeves and lengths look good.

The synthetic fur collar on Pharrell's Junya x Vanson looks pretty good - Great option to consider. Although it's the 2 zip design, It provides some insight into a cleaner front design.

This. I've always found on substantial leathers that a split back maintains better form. This was most noticeable in my Cyclone and super monza jackets, where the latter sits closer and neater due to the horizontal seam.
