Commando soles are definitely made by Itshide and these are the ones used by Trickers. However, the studded rubber soles which are generally referred to as Dainite soles and which are made by the Harboro Rubber Co are also made by Itside. It’s strange how opinions/ tastes differ because personally I really like the contrast between the dark Cafe and the natural welt. I certainly don’t think it’s a bad thing, more likely a good thing. The only issue might be with darker colours such as Espresso or Cafe as these have a tendency to lighten in colour over time. The Trickers factory actually suggested to me that black polish should be used to maintain those dark...- princealbert

I tried to resist but finally caved in and ordered a pair of the waxy commander Stows from AFPOS. I have owned several pairs of Stows but these are right up there with my favourites. Absolutely love them.- princealbert

Sorry if this advice is contradictory but if you wear 9.5 on the w2298 last and if it is snug I would not size down to 9 for the 4497. I wear the same size for both the 2298 and the 4497. The 2298 is snug around the toes but I find the 4497 has more room in that area. But as ever in this...- princealbert

Great to see pics of boots that have had some serious wear. Those Grasmeres in particular look really good. I understand what you are saying about getting them re-welted with a natural welt, but that will be a fairly expensive exercise and I think it will be hard to improve on how they look at...- princealbert

That’s interesting. If it’s coated then it’s not something that’s noticeable. I wouldn’t let that put you off that type of leather. The main difference that I noticed is that it is a bit thicker than calf skin.- princealbert

I own a couple of pairs in MC and if it’s coated it’s not obvious as it has a fairly matt finish. I’m really not into coated finishes like bookbinder.- princealbert

They probably are beechnut or marron but over the years Tricker’s have produced a surprising number of shades of brown. One which springs to mind is a shade called ‘moccasin’. See post #17,920 which provides an example of this colour.- princealbert
