The CM Graveyard: First Sartoria Partenopea... next J. Crew?

TM Lewin to close all their stores. They will continue as a mail order/online only operation.

    Brooks Brothers Red Fleece Cafe

Ralph Lauren turned a chunk of their womenswear store on Madison into a cafe. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more money in selling coffee and cake than clothes.

    Down vests over suit coats

I'm with Leon that the sleeveless vests look a whole lot better than the down jackets - but I still can't imagine ever wearing such a thing. On the other hand, I often wear a Barbour jacket over a suit.

    Long Weekend Getaway Ideas

Reykjavik. Easily doable from NY, and completely different from anywhere you could go for a long weekend in the US.

    CFA Charter: worth it?

Thanks. If I do it, it's for the finance knowledge and not for the designation. I want to get deeper with finance, but don't want to get an MBA. An alternative to the MBA for people who want a rigorous finance course is a 1-year Masters in Finance. Still requires going back to school, but I...

    CFA Charter: worth it?

In equity research, it's an important qualification. Outside of that, you occasionally see bankers doing it but it's unusual. As others have said, it's a huge amount of work. You mentioned it helping your legal career. Can't remember if you're a law student or if you're currently practicing --...

    Antwerp

Antwerp is a great city. But if you've got 4-5 days, I would spend a bit of time in Brussels too. It's a very underrated place.

    Let's keep talking about cheese

If you're a fan of Stilton, I suggest you try some Stichelton. It's a raw milk version of Stilton. The AOC rules for Stilton require the use of pasteurized milk, so they can't call it Stilton - but it's otherwise the same cheese. Excellent stuff.

Citi for banking and investments for expats

I've found HSBC to have a more joined up approach to international banking. Citi has operations everywhere, but the different countries often don't speak to each other. A big factor is if you qualify for one of the "mass affluent" products (Premier at HSBC or Citigold at Citi). That will...

Ben Silver doesn't much like Visa cards...

Are they allowed to do this? I thought that if a merchant accepts Visa, they have to take any Visa card from any customer. But I'm not an expert on merchant rules for credit cards.

    Buffalo Mozzarella is the $#!t

Waitrose and such carry what they call mozzarella di bufala, but when its packaged like that it strikes me as odd. I guess it is Buffalo milk, but it doesnt seem to have the same creamyness combined with the bite of the rind that I get in the deli / cheese shop. There is supposed to be a...

    New Dunhill store in London

Anyone been to the new Dunhill store in Mayfair yet? It's a beautiful building (it was built as the Duke of Westminster's town house). Apparently there's going to be a bar and a private screening room there.

Iconic. It's massively overused in the British press at the moment - I see or hear it numerous times a day.

Which Airports Are a Destination in Themselves?

Tegel is great - very small and close to the city centre. Sheremetyevo is horrible, but Domodedovo is actually not bad. I wouldn't call either place a destination in its own right, though.

    Metropolitan.

Then I looked at IMDB to see what happened to all the actors, and got quite sad. I don't know why seeing one great film and then nothing on an actor's resume makes me sad, but it does. With a couple of exceptions, they weren't really professional actors. For most of them, Metropolitan was a...

    Winnie-the-Pooh.

The original illustrations are wonderful. By the way, they were done by E.H. Shepard (who also did the illustrations for an edition of The Wind in the Willows).
