    Chan overcoat styles

I got these in the email and thought I would post. I'm looking to get something in charcoal, dark gray, or dark brown. I'm drawn to No. 347 (fly front), though I might consider something like No. 352 (DB). For what it's worth, I'm 5'4" and somewhat stocky. Also: Anyone have pics of completed items?

    Donegal recommendation for suit

I'd say go with either three patch or two flap plus ticket flap plus breast welt configuration. Both of these will look appropriate on a suit as sporty as this one. Would anyone's pocket recommendations change if this was going to be an odd jacket? Also, is tweed like this particularly suited...

    Donegal recommendation for suit

The Porter and Harding is really nice. I almost ordered a pair of pants in it, but 17 oz. seemed way too heavy for San Diego. I agree with FNB about the pockets. I think the suit in post # 7 looks great. I think the P&H comes in a 14 oz., too, at least for some colors.

Why don't you just show him Matt's pic with the changes? I think it looks much improved. Agreed. He should charge for that service. Thanks, Matt!

Okay, it looks like I'm all set. I will ask Patrick to: (1) build up the shoulder padding, but not extend the shoulders; and (2) extend the shoulders, but not build up the shoulder padding. But seriously, folks, this is helpful. I will ask for a bit more length -- probably 0.5" -- and more...

Nope, it's definitely about a centimeter. The difference in length between versions is about the width of his thumb knuckle. Yes, I checked. You guys are great. FYI:

    Donegal recommendation for suit

Here are more pics. I was looking at these myself for a jacket. The thornproof has a tighter weave than the W. Bill.

Thanks all for the helpful feedback! To answer a few questions, I am a towering 5'4", longer in the torso than legs, usually take a 38s jacket and size 30 trousers, and have a 16" neck. You all say that I have low shoulders, but I like to think of it as developed traps, natch. I already asked...

is the second jacket a Porter & Harding herringbone w/blue and gray windowpane? The brown is John G. Hardy Riviera 7514, shown below. The gray is Minnis fresco. Both are 8-9 oz.

Thanks for the comments, especially those regarding the shoulder issue, which I wouldn't have considered. I'm fairly stocky in the chest/shoulders (among other places), so my inclination has been to avoid shoulder padding, but I suppose it could help the balance with my hips. Also, mao & PG, I...

Yeah, I don't know why that one does that. I thought the others have been OK in the divot department. But before this gets out of hand, I should note that I am not now, nor have I been in the past, a sanitation worker. As far as you know.

    New Chan stuff (pics)

Here are pics of new(ish) Chan stuff. On the left is a suit I got in the spring; on the right is a jacket I got earlier this month. I have been pretty happy with the gray suit. When I got the brown jacket, I felt like it looked short, even though it is the same length as the suit jacket on the...

    Westbourne Appreciation

Here's my pair, from Plal. Oddly, they were a little darker/redder than the standard C&J chestnut everywhere except the tongue. I'm happy since I actually love the color.

Advice (please): Blue mid-weight DB coat (blazer?)

Thanks. From the picture the birdseye seems rather strong -- not sure it would work as anything other than a suit. Here's another pic of the Sunbeam blue/blue, along with the navy. I saw them the other day and thought that either one would be good for a jacket (blazer). The pattern on the...

    Pics of 2d Chan suit

thanks very much for all the comments. fyi, this suit (like my last one) was done with a basted fitting from patrick on the order tour. i agree that there are issues with the fit here, and am a little concerned that fit seems to be moving in the wrong direction. that said, i will see what...

    1st Chan suit -- pics

He has been opening up the quarters on my jackets on his own volition, nothing I requested. Hmm. I had asked for open quarters when I ordered this suit. Bottom line you are short and stocky with very sloping shoulders and big thighs. Not a natural suit model. Guilty as charged! Given my...

    1st Chan suit -- pics

Thank you for the comments! The button stance was the first thing I noticed, too (after the sleeve and trouser length issues). My concern with this jacket is that it looks a little off-balance and almost pear-shaped at times, in light of the high button stance and pronounced waist suppression...

    1st Chan suit -- pics

I recently took delivery of my first suit from Chan, the ordering of which was discussed in this thread. I ordered in November, had a basted fitting in March, and got the suit in May. The fabric is a from the Holland & Sherry 10/11 oz. Target book (HS525), in charcoal. The shirt is from Chan as...
