Was walking around Sydney today. It's back to at least 50% life now . . . in some places maybe even 70%. Like the use of cash, I suspect that COVID has brought forward the death of the suit (and tie) in the workplace by about a decade. I saw a group of cocky young investment bankers strutting...

This thread has certainly gone quiet. Looks like COVID killed the passion . . . or at least changed priorities.

How to keep shirt collar standing up?

Hidden button-down collar is the best solution I've found. https://propercloth.com/collar-styles/hidden-button-down-collar

Sounds surprisingly similar to my "journey". Started out with MTM from Zegna, Canali, etc. Tried Adamo for true bespoke before he retired. Then back to MTM with P Johnson. Had shirts made by Nakhle, P Johnson, etc. Migrated up the chain to Ascot Chang and B&Tailor when I was earning a bit...

    The Sydney Tailors Thread

Sorry, I don't. Some of the tailors listed above (Zink & Sons, for example) are happy to do alterations work on suits even if they didn't create them. There is an excellent alterations tailor in the Gowings building (he is used by Zegna, Harrolds, etc) but I seem to have lost his business...

Thanks! Don't think Bell & Barnett are in Sydney, just Melbourne? But I have added Peter Jackson.

    The Sydney Tailors Thread

Thought I'd post my "almost definitive" list of Sydney tailors here so it can be easily found in the future. Bespoke Bijan http://www.bespokebijan.com.au/ The Finery Company (own label, made in Korea. Used to represent B&Tailor) https://www.instagram.com/thefinerycompany/?hl=en Herman...

Very impressed with my first bespoke order from Zing Chen. Despite the lower price point, I think the handwork and attention to detail is comparable to B&Tailor

My guess would be that PJT has grown too quickly and the Italian workshop is struggling to maintain quality. It's a shame. I don't buy my suits from PJ these days, but I'd like to see him thrive (and succeed overseas). We don't have many Australian tailoring success stories.

Done, thanks! I remember Remy, he did my MTM on a couple of P Johnson suits. Great guy. -------------------------------------------------- As for independent MTM you could add https://www.remy.com.au/. Formally a fitter of PJT/SS, looks like it comes out of the some Chinese factories as SS -...

Sitting at home bored, and I was recalling a long thread from 11 years ago where 'we' were bemoaning the dismal state of Sydney bespoke/MTM tailoring. (https://www.styleforum.net/threads/sydney-tailors.73363/) Have things got better over the past decade? Unquestionably. It's easy to forget...

I had an old but much-loved pair of Alden boots completely re-soled, corked, re-heeled by Baxter & Black. They do sensational work, though you have to accept that it doesn't come cheap . . . a rebuild costs more than most punters pay for a pair of shoes!

    The Hong Kong Tailors Thread

I think it's hard to judge until you've washed it and pressed. Collar should soften if it isn't fused. Initial reaction is that there is too much fabric in several places . . . under arms, arms, etc

    Tailor (MTM) recommendations in Sydney

In the next 4-6 weeks Jo Ha (The Finery Company) is introducing a MTM range, should be an interesting option for people who don't want to spend the $2,500+ for Zing or $4,000+ for his Finery branded Korean full bespoke suit (which has effectively replaced B&Tailor in his range). Suit Shop...

Doubt anyone in Australia other than Joe Ha has got a Zing Chen suit yet . . . but I trust TFC and I think I may give them a try.

Indigo, straight leg (but without looking like Dad Jeans) that I could wear with a jacket for an informal business meeting or wear socially. Price not a big issue, happy to pay $250 - $350 . . . but maybe Corlection cost more than that
