The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

@Newcomer Nuke! I love that. By the way, your screen name is getting a little old. How you been these few years? I have a big birthday this week. Mrs mimo really came through for me. I wanted one of these since 2013!

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Rolex love the high used prices because they feed the feeling of specialness and perpetuate the demand for new models. But most people don't buy new watches on the grey market - there simply isn't the supply where Rolex is concerned, hence the preposterous mark-ups. Rolex controls their grey...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

A friend of mine here in the Old World told me he's just lost £100k (about $125k) in 28 months on his (new bought) McLaren. But he's found ordering the new Taycan Turbo S irresistable. I wish I could convince him to spend more on watches - though he's not doing badly on that score either.

Now what does that magic button do? You know it's illegal to post one picture of a Reverso, right? Makes no sense - ever Reverso needs at least two or three for proper evaluation!

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

That would make a lot more sense - if it's not worth the money to you inherently, it makes no sense to buy it. But I meant thinking of resale as a primary deciding factor. Exactly what I had in mind. If you don't mind a used watch, then it might even make a perverse sense to seek out stuff...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I think if your main motivation for buying a watch is your estimated resale value, buy another watch. Or perhaps its just a different subject.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

They don't give most special editions series numbers these days because everyone wants the same damn numbers. Every grey dealer and provincial agent has a special watch they can offer you that's got a number with a four in it. Chinese soft power! They still series number some of the higher...

You can solve that by using the back as the front at those times :rimshot: Here's an interesting JLC: a limited edition of 100 very thin (4mm) two-hand dress watches, made for the new "Kingsman" movie. List price (tax paid) in the UK is £26900, through Richemont's recently-acquired online...

The SS is really pretty. I don't do gold myself so I'd definitely wear it. But the gold is pretty and exclusive!

Congratulations - that is a really neat modern take on a classic design. And all watches are welcome in this thread - it's the other one that confines to a price limit as a guide. It's nice to have variety alongside every graduate's new Submariner ;) As for the Speedy, there is no harm in...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

TWD, I did hear someone found a standard Sub in stock the other day at Goldsmiths, but certainly where I am, the requests for "sought after" pieces are unabated. Where you might find a bit of movement is on the more normal sports watches, e.g. I'm on my first day back today and I'm able to hook...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

You're right about that. Any Rolex sports watch sells fast. Most don't ever make the display case - Subs, etc. - but those that do sure don't sit. If it worked for you, you were right to grab it while it was sitting there. I dislike the games Rolex play with availability (and Patek, AP, and...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Where I am we don't take deposits at all on Rolex. Ask for it. When it comes in you have a week to pay or it's sold to someone else. The 37mm YM is not as sought after as we insecure men like big watches to compensate for our small personas. So, yes, you could flip it, but it's not a money...
