Theres a few murals of that scene out here in Oakland, CA. They usually cut the Aussie out due to ignorance. Interesting to see people in all their outerwear on the dancefloor, compared to these days — it gets hot enough in a jumper and BD in venue with modern HVAC, must have been roasting...- Yankee

Here in the states, they became "girly" because early on you couldn't get docs in small sizes. So girls and young'ns had to wear monkeys.- Yankee

Personally I can't stand this, or people "borrowing the look" without any of attitude. Cheapens the whole thing, the way swishy guys with lisps playing "leather biker dress" up turned the whole brando 'wild one' look into a walking punch line. But I'm a grouch :)- Yankee
