    Cashmere Sweater Hierarchy

Wow, that is something! I have a cap made from Qiviut I bought at a Native Alaskan co-op and it is is super warm. When I bought it, the woman told me to be careful, since once stretched, the knit won’t spring back to its original shape, as is the case with lambswool. The cap was expensive...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

That‘s a beauty. I might be mistaken, but pretty sure it has the same movement as Foo‘s 1921. Are you guys brothers from different mothers?

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I have one of those on my DJ shirts as well. Does anyone have a pic of how the corresponding button is positioned on the waistband? I want to ask my tailor to add the button to my trousers.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Why do you say that? ELI5 why they are more sophisticated - genuinely curious here, since at least on paper the GS is a pretty decent movement (72 hrs PR, 28800, hacking seconds). The 822 has a lower PR and frequency and doesn‘t hack (I know not important for you). The 8926 in the Omega also...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I realize Grand Seiko is not for everyone, but your comment “[The Omega is] far more watch for the money” is a stretch. I have the 18k version of the posted GS which has the same movement. I also have a Reverso and comparing the two, the GS is so much smoother when working the crown. In...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Interesting. Not sure if I should be worried or impressed. Impressed, In the sense that Bvlgari could develop a new movement and not issue a press release to mention it. Or worried, in the sense a new movement released without fanfare could be an admission about the reliability of the...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

How’s it holding up since the service? Still keeping time within spec? I really like the OF and want one, but a bit worried about the reliability of the movement.

Yeah, that new logo looks too much like the AOPA one:

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

No experience with such cloth, but based purely on your pics, I prefer the color of #2 but the weave of #1. Number 2 looks a bit more open and I wonder how such a weave would look for clothes (seems more suitable for other applications, such as a bag).

That was my understanding as well, yet many makers still use steel spring bars… …including Omega:

Which is kinda crazy, since the Cartier version is selling for around $50k now.

Nice. I believe it uses the same THA movement in the Cartier Monopoussoir.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I wonder how they decide to make some watches in gold but others not. I mean, a gold Speedy is really cool, but come on, a gold AT? I don’t really see the appeal. I’ve had this gold B&R saved in my Chrono24 favorites for at least a couple of years, mainly to see if someone buys it: It’s...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I’ve been itching to get a full-gold sport watch, like the Bvlgari I posted earlier. Based on my unscientific data, it seems the majority of gold watches on gold bracelets start around $30k. I suppose most makers realized that this is where the market starts and no one is offering one for less...

Those are East Arabic numerals. It’s a special dial offered in the Middle East (I tried it on at the Dubai boutique). Actually, Cyrillic numerals might be more fitting, considering that they were developed by the First Bulgarian Empire.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I did find it comfortable the few times I’ve tried it on. But of course that was just at the store and I did wonder how it‘d feel after a long day on the wrist. I really like the chronograph, but at 42mm found it a bit large for my wrist: I’ve been lusting after a gold one for a while. I...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

Thanks. I guess I didn’t express myself very well. I was wondering how “formal” the overall look is when worn with a tie. I suppose on the scale of formalness, it would look more casual than an equivalent suit in a smoother fabric.

Do you mean that? I find the Oyster case, especially in smaller diameters, very comfy. I very much like the OF and it is on my short list of ”next watch to buy.” With that said, your recent experience of reliability raises concerns. I think @chocomallo also mentioned that he had issues with...
