just lost weight and trying to get good fitting shirts
1. If you have a 42" chest a slim fit dress shirt should be at lrast 45 and preferably 46". But it's also a matter of personal preference. 6-7. You don't sound like an unusual size, you are a pretty normal medium size. You have an 8" drop so you will probably need a tailor to take in the waist...- gandhi

Trouble finding brooks brothers shirts to fit and need blazer advice
We can't know if what you are syaing is normal since you don't tell us yuor measurements. Anyways, getting made-tomeasure from BB is expensive and there are cheaper options online. The cheapest way is just to have a tailor take in the waist. It is a simple alteration and costs about $15 per shirt.- gandhi

Slim Fit Pants
Wool should only be dry cleaned so there should not be any shrinkage, although if the cleaners don't know what they are doing then it is possible for shrinkage to occur even with drycleaning. I noticed this with my Mctavish too. I've noticed other people saying the Mccallister is also a bit looser than other 5-last styles like the Strand and Park Ave. I wonder if it has something to do with the wingtip design?- gandhi

Merino wool vs Pima Cotton?

Looking For Help Finding A Slim Fit Topcoat
Jos Bank has a slim fitted cashmere topcoat http://www.josbank.com/menswear/shop/Product_11001_10050_240726 It's 399 now but they run half price sales all the times which would bring it to 350. After Christmas they start doing clearance on their winter items and will have it for 70% off.- gandhi

In my experience Malaysia is slightly preferable to being made in China. Brooks Brothers seems to outsource alot of their production to Malaysia. Malaysia is a reasonably well off country by third world standards, incomes are much than in China or the Phillipines, so I imagine they have better...- gandhi

Good "value" dress shoe?
+1 Black oxfords, Brown oxfords, Solid navy suit, Solid charcoal suit, handful of white/blue shirts handful of business appropriate ties... good to go. This is the best advice. If you can't afford good shoes (ie Allen Edmonds) then you should get as cheap as possible and put the savings...- gandhi
