The first rule of cheap suit buying is "KNOW THY MEASUREMENTS." And if you cannot follow that rule the second best rule is: "KNOW THY SHOULDER MEASUREMENT." Its not that hard. You took the suit to an alternations place (note: not a tailor), and they gave you contrary advice. I went to Paul's Alteration Center at Bathurst and 401 today. He said the shoulders and length were perfect but is suppessing the waist and shortening the sleeves by .5 inch as well as letting the waist and seat out about an inch. I'll post pics when I pick it up.- 8string

Seems like the shoulders are too big for you. You need to size down. If this was a 38 - try the 36. Thanks I appreciate that. You need to size down the jacket. It looks too big in the shoulders and too long. My hands are infront of me in the one pic and makes it look longer.
