Good tailor in Vancouver?
I don’t know that shop and I’m not from Vancouver, but in general I don’t think you should expect an expert’s opinion for free. Tailors work hard for many years to develop their skills and eye for detail, and most of them don’t make a very lucrative living. Any time they spend giving free advice...- Erablian

Pleats pointed up, as in the photo, is the traditional way. The mnemonic to remember this is the nickname “crumbcatcher” for cummerbund. As far as I know, only US Army mess dress wear cummerbunds with pleats pointing down.- Erablian

I agree that those hats are not very good. But I find it strange that you would put down “store-bought hats” in general. What is the alternative to buying a hat from a store? Making one for yourself at home?- Erablian

Dinner Jacket Question
The jacket in the picture you posted is not a dinner jacket, so please stop calling it a dinner jacket. It is a "mess jacket." A dinner jacket has a skirt that extends to the bottom of the seat. The mess jacket has no skirt and ends at or just below the waist. Here is picture of something close...- Erablian
