    The Official Wine Thread

Wow - my first real visit to SF in a couple years and this is the thread/post I see first. Thierry Mortet Chambolle Beaux Bruns (99 I think) in London nearly a decade ago was the wine that sparked my passion. Beautifully fragrant. Haven't had one since. Hardly ever see/hear of them. Had...

What makes a great pair of loafers?

A nicely defined, shaped last (not necessarily chiselled or pointy), good leather, lack of metal, probably not black. Suede makes a ton of sense for loafers. I'm a big fan of those Anthony Cleverley tassels.

critique my resume for m.consulting and ibanking!

recruiting season is upon us at school and im trying to aim for summer 2011 internships in management consulting (mbb, deloitte) and investment banking. i know my chances are pretty slim to none at mbb, but ill take my chances. since there are a ton of professionals on sf, i wanted to reach out...

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post or it's been addressed before in one of these threads: is there a way to download and save PMs?

    Chester Jeffries

I've gotten a few pairs from them over the years. They do a solid job making slightly rustic, well-fitting gloves. I would err on the tighter size of self-measurements as they will stretch a bit. Also, pay the nominal extra for the hand-stitching.

Heavy weight suit instead of overcoat

Used to do this a lot in NE USA. Best was a 16 oz flannel three piece with gloves and a big, thick scarf. Worked to about 0 degrees Celsius, sometimes lower.

Fashion design at Ivies+elite Liberal Arts Colleges

A friend who's designing now went the Brown-RISD route. Seems to me to be the best way to go in terms of formal schooling, though there is much to be said for being in NYC/Columbia.

First Chinese chef/restaurant awarded Michelin 3 stars

Never been. I might line it up on the docket for my HK trip in February. If not 3-star worthy, is it still worth going (sans expense account)? It's worth going to and not very expensive, but don't expect to be blown away as you would expect at a 3 star restaurant. The dim sum and food in...

First Chinese chef/restaurant awarded Michelin 3 stars

Never in the many times I've been there have I thought it to be a three star restaurant.

    Tuxedo Fabric Choices

All this talk of Lesser is a waste of time. Chan doesn't carry it and they won't take COM. Actually, they've carried Lesser for at least several months. I can't recall if they have the formalwear book, but they will gladly order the cloth if provided a swatch number.

Shoe Damage Report & Appreciation Central - Part I

Those are fantastic. Are they bespoke or made to order? I seem to remember G&G only use those metal toe plates on bespoke, but I'm not sure. Judging from the sole I'd venture they're bespoke. Yup, they're bespoke. Really coming around to the round toe for certain shoes.

Are you forced to dress conservatively because of your occupation?

My job (management consulting, first year out of undergrad, at a firm that, according to some, promotes conformity) allows me to indulge in most of my more unusual desires: for example, pocket squares, cream silk suits, ribbon belts, even espadrille-like shoes on Fridays in the office. I don't...

    Hong Kong restaurant recommendations?

For a view from Kowloon side and good Cantonese food, Yan Toh Heen in the Intercontinental is the place. Hutong has beautiful views but does not serve Canto food.

anyone out there live in downtown LA?

I stayed with a friend who lives in a converted loft building. The area is still pretty shady, and we did not feel comfortable walking outside at night, not that there was anything to go without a car. Most of the people living there were in their 20's.

^ Good call, I like that place, too. Honeymoon Dessert, on the 3rd floor.

If you choose Yung Kee, try asking your hotel concierge if he can get you into Yung's Club.

    Hong Kong restaurant recommendations?

The most innocuous options are in hotels. On the HK side, Lung King Heen in the Four Seasons and One Harbor Road in the Grand Hyatt are good. Other options are Lei Garden (the IFC one is probably the nicest) or Fu Sing in Wanchai (quite traditional - do try their special steamed crab in rice...

Please comment on this tailor's work

Very nice work. I really like the tie in the middle pic of the second post. I've been trying to find something like it for months and have had little luck.
