Paul Stuart expands and relocates their shoe department

I was just there about 3 weeks ago and they have some very nice balmoral boots this season (at something like $525 or $550 I believe). Sadly, not pictured on the website. One was a brown lower with chocolate suede upper. Another style had cloth uppers (either black lower with black & white...

    Ask me about Eyewear!

Can anyone identify the frames that Sam Waterston is wearing in the new HBO series Newsroom? Hard to find pictures of him wearing them online though :(

Looking for (free, online) architectural sketches

So I'm doing a bit of decorating/redecorating and I would like to just print out a few choice sketches from the internet and throw them into some existing frames I have. They are small frames, so it wouldn't have to be too hi-res. I am thinking some classic architectural sketches or industrial...

    Recommend budget/bang-for-buck pots & pans

You can do a lot of cooking for $150 on an 8 piece Tramontina set from Wal-Mart. It's their top of the line set and gets decent reviews. You can even buy it online so you avoid the People of Wal-Mart shopping experience. Remember that the lids are considered a 'piece' in most boxed sets that...

The Plain English Movement - will it ever catch on?

Eason has been succint, but let me be long-winded and circuitous. There is a viscious cycle in academic writing. Academic writing is judged by academics and grad students. Neither group wants to say they are 'too dumb' to understand what you wrote, that it is vague, ambiguous, or lacks...

    Experience with Prep Schools??

This is a good thread (typed by a lowly public school kid (from a very crappy rural public school). I know plenty of smart young folks but I'm not even sure if I know anyone who went to an elite NE boarding school. Most of the boarders I've met went to a place in Virginia or SC to do drugs and...

Has anyone built/converted their own loft from a commercial space?

So I'm moving soon and going to get a short-term apartment or house rental. However, pretty soon I'll probably be looking to buy something more permanent. The city has a lot of empty commercial space near downtown, and I want to research the idea of doing a loft setup. Where can I find out...

    Legal Jobs?

Maybe she was only at $190 or 200K as a 7th yr if she was in Cleveland or Pittsburgh, that would give her a current salary of more like $115-120, which still seems pretty generous for the area and the hours. This part is probably closer to correct. It's likely that the career associates have...

    Opening a law office

Awesome. IRS defense sounds great. I will look into it. Thanks for the advice. Also, buy a debt collection CLE (or go to one, if there is a seminar around). The federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (and there is probably a state-level analog in your jurisdiction) is basically a gold mine...

Clearly the NFL needs more Asian quarterbacks so that white people will think Asians can be effective team leaders.

    Criminal Defence vs. The Conscience?

Don't take sexual assault cases with young victims. Problem solved. If you find yourself forced to take cases you find repugnant, you need to spend less time hand wringing about moral issues and more time figuring out why your practice management is so poor that you can't afford to turn down...

    Opening a law office

Lots and lots of good advice here. If you're not already a member, join your state's trial bar. They have list-servs. At least in my state, the list-servs are gold. With your membership (sometimes free or reduced to new entrants to the practice) you'll probably have to pick a section. These...

    McMansion or not?

My parents still use a space heater in their bedroom at night so that they can have the rest of the house at about 50F. It harkens back to perhaps 20-25 years or so ago when they had to squeeze every penny they could. They rode the dot com bubble up and thankfully not down, but the heater...

    Grad School Thread

I'm having second thoughts about not getting the MBA but figure after getting solid work-exp if I want to get one I can go to a much better school than I could now. Sorry for the long post but basically do you think I made the right decision going the masters in accounting rather than the 4+1...

Difficult for "older" students to into top MBA programs?

Just curious, how do business schools' admissions offices vet out older candidates? I'm guessing that they can't explicitly prefer young students, or maybe they can, I don't know the law. What would be the recourse if they can't officially say "we prefer younger students,"..."oh, we prefer...

    Science going into law school?

The most sage advice you'll ever get is to go to the best school you can possibly get admitted to. I cannot emphasize this enough. I'm not here to debate whether that's justified or not. It's just the way it is. The competition for associate positions (at firms of all sizes and jobs of all pay...

    was it worth it?

Were all those hours you invested into studying in high school/college worth it? Are you where you wanted to be? Im only in high school and I belong to the top 10 percent of all students in the country but I ask myself if it is really worth it. what do you guys have to say to this? Nope.

What makes a good LinkedIn profile?

*Has anyone ever been contacted by a legit recruiter via LinkedIn? My "scholarly" (HA!) work has been published and as a result other firms in my field have cold-called me about it. Not a recruiter, but interesting to me.

    Science going into law school?

At my law school there were folks from schools I'd never heard of, and I certainly knew folks who did well at more highly-regarded schools that didn't get in. Fact. "School prestige" doesn't really amount to a hill of beans. They aren't admitting a school, they are admitting a person.
