    Ask me about Eyewear!

I've haunted this thread every year when I get a new pair of glasses, so I figured I'd give back a bit. For folks in Seattle, Ottica is having a Francis Klein trunk show on March 26. Custom orders available. Everything 20% off. I'd dismissed the brand as kooky/mid-century try-hard/face...

The What Are You Wearing Today (WAYWT) Discussion Thread, Part II

Hilariously, if he "grew a pair of nuts" (your inference), they'd be sensitive. Having testicles doesn't make you stronger, nor immune you to either: Having your feeling hurt by things people say Disliking someone's manner of speech or how they've addressed you So, nomed, if you're...

@Knight – Into it. I would pinroll/peg the pants, but maybe that's just my preference for everything these days. Regardless, though – looks fantastic.

@ManofKent – I picked up a pair of the MIE DMs after seeing yours all the time and was surprised by how absolutely atrocious the leather was. I can only assume it's corrected grain or "genuine leather" or something equally as untoward. But, even still, love them for thinking of my halcyon days...

@flowcharts – Needs pants with a little more room in the top block/thighs and I'd go with more substantial footwear.

The Cinch pants are on the more formal end of EG pants. If you're into the more workwear aesthetic, you're better off focusing on something more "rugged." I saw you ask in WAYWT for how to make things more interesting and the person recommended something looser in wool, which you took to...

Quoting for emphasis for @modual's benefit. I don't understand wanting to buy something you don't like. EG is maybe a "cool" brand, but you should find pieces that you like the look of (tons of stockists post fit photos) instead of just trying to find some EG pieces you like. Seems very...

    Engineered Garments FW 15

Just a follow-on for this: I stopped by this Nordstroms today to scope any pre-Black Friday potential and no one that worked in the men's department had even heard of Engineered Garments and they had no indication/record of plans to stock it this season.

The Possibly Official Engineered Garments Trading Thread

Expedition Jacket in brown homespun from FW 14, size M – wore this twice last winter so it's in essentially new condition. Now that it's colder, thought I'd throw this back out there. A few people were interested but no one bit. Would really prefer to sell, but would entertain trades for any...

Au contraire, mon frere. My non-Workaday 19th Century BDs also have the gusseted pit, as well. Maybe that's a somewhat new feature? My oldest 19th Century is from, I think, SS2012. @bry2000 – Didn't realize "diffusion line" meant the stuff had to be cheaper. The more you know.

    Engineered Garments FW 15

Unlike mbaum, I really like the material itself – have the cardigan in it. Think it's a really rich shade that pairs well with every shade of brown. However, he's right about the cut being weird. I think the model in the lookbook is sized up

    Engineered Garments FW 15

I got the Hooded Interliner from FW14 in brown fair isle. Yes, it's a layering piece, and it goes well with pretty much anything given how short it is. If you're too self-conscious for someone to see that you're wearing a dickie, then a dickie isn't for you.

What MoK said is true, though I'd add that the Workaday 19th Century BDs are identical detail-wise. However their fits aren't always the same because, like everything else EG, the patterns are recut for every season.

Agreed. Doing all EG well requires you to have either very specific outfits or a lot of it to choose from. They make a ton of really boring pieces every season (which people tend to gravitate toward) and the aesthetic is more nuanced than most people give it credit for. There isn't a ton of...

@ManofKent – Think the Cinches work well with the Bedford for your build. I dig the slightly disheveled, unfussed-with vibe of the Bedford, as well.

    Engineered Garments FW 15

Pattern changes every season. SS 14 was straight and short FW 14 was a longer version of SS 14 SS 15 was tapered (most different fit of any EG fatigue) FW 15 is a shorter version of FW14

@blue peter – Think that fit would improve with some trousers that were more voluminous in the thigh. The very loose Bedford looks out of place with what appear to be really slim Cinch pants. Here's an example of what I'm talking about from one of the Nepenthes IG accounts...

The What Are You Wearing Today (WAYWT) Discussion Thread, Part II

That Junya knit isn't a "basic" – did you see the full shot of it? Visvim Brigadiers, while they are brown plain toe boots, aren't "basic" if you look at the details at all. So it's more like: statement piece + interesting piece + subtly detailed, luxe take on a basic + basic I'm not...
