    SWD Discussion Thread for Tailoring

Ugh, I told myself I wouldn't comment on styleforum again after last time, but... I feel like Tom Ford is more angular Nutter/Sexton. Nutty tailoring (I'm calling it that now) is all about big bellies and (parallel cut) flares and funky pagoda shoulders and the drape cut chest and stuff. Tom...

Long sleeve wool polo - with a shirt underneath?

Drake's does this with rugbies. Your primary issue is that the polo is far too tight. If all of your clothes fit slim, then stuffing an extra layer in between your shirt and jacket is bust asking for trouble. Then... the Luca Faloni model is, unfortunately for us, very pretty. Layering in this...

    Suggestions for adjusting MTM Suit?

I agree. Go for a 2-button (the current position of your middle button is good), wider lapels. Sleeves are not too big, but if they ride up too much while you move your arms, some adjustments might help. The shoulder might be a tad big, it's hard to tell liket his. And obviously we don't see how...

Black Tie Recommendation for a beginner

You have a tuxedo, is there a problem with it? Does it smell bad? Does it fit poorly? Do you just not like the cut? Are you looking for a better material? If it was actually a rental tuxedo, I can imagine a couple of these issues being a problem, but if it has a Christian Dior tag, why would it...

Shoe recommendation for a charcoal Shetland Donegal suit?

Everything above would work fine some of the time. What vibe do you want to give off? English businessesman? Black oxfords. English countryside? Maybe some dark brown galways. CM-type influencer? Loafers every single day (which is fair, because loafers are the best shoes). Hypebeast who happens...

Advice/ Feedback on my Winter 22/23 Styles Please?

It's all fine. Fit 3 with the brown pants is probably the best. I really think your next step is to forget about what styleforum likes and focus on developing your own taste, though.

    Is this jacket too long?

It's fine. Maybe a little bit of a slouchy vibe depending on the greater outfit. How do you feel about it? Shortening jackets is one of those moves people tend to regret. It throws the jacket out of proportion and messes with the shape of the quarters. I would recommend not doing that.

    Wedding in Hvar

Literally whichever you prefer. I'm sorry you felt the need to ask this in a poll, but people have put together a million good outfits with a navy seersucker suit and each type of loafer. I'd recommend avoiding tan loafers, though, navy suits + tan shoes are not a great look. Do you know what...

Modern items to get 50s Elvis look?

You know, I was going to recommend, like, Bryceland's and SJC for those huge collars... and I still might... But some of the se shirts reminded me of Scott Fraser Collection. Definitely 50s vibes, and their latest shirt has a collar like the blue jumpsuit's in @ter1413's post. Their dress pants...

    Comparing OCBD brands

I'd recommend looking into these shirts yourself. Figure out: Which fabric you're most comfortable in. Which one fits you best. Which collar you like the most. If you like a color on one of them better than the others. If you just want a starting point... I think Kamakura might have the most...

Correct Number of Sleeve Buttons for a Four Button Suit?

See, you made that up. It said black suits. It was clear, in context, that they were referring to the same black lounge suits with lapels that you might see anywhere else. By the way, black suits are common daytime / business attire in Europe as well. When you say "Western," it's clear that...

Correct Number of Sleeve Buttons for a Four Button Suit?

People in Asia in 2023 wear classic western suits. Not sure what you thought they wore...

Dark brown shoes with dark grey suit

I'm curious if you actually thought that there was any cause for concern here. "What i you wear it with a reddish button down" is not a complex nuance, of course it doesn't change the answer. A gray suit is an extremely neutral piece of clothing. You can wear it with reds, pinks, purples...

Dark brown shoes with dark grey suit

I'm confused. It's been done to death. You've read the same answer in a few dozen guides before you asked it. Why did you ask? I mean, you say you're worried about nuance, but like... just seems like paranoia over minor, safe choices you understand just fine.

    The Official Dieworkwear Appreciation Thread

I think this is still standard operating procedure in a lot of places that don't otherwise allow self-promotion, and doesn't really hurt the forum, right? I can't imagine people spam comments just to get their signature links seen, that doesn't seem like it would be worth the effort, especially...

    Canali Suit Quality

The suit list does occasionally still get updated, I think. It was never perfect, though, and seems to have fallen somewhat into disrepair. And the idea of rating suit quality like this is a little silly to begin with, since cut and style and fit and personal preference matter more than quality...

    The Official Dieworkwear Appreciation Thread

Oh, I knew that much. This history was interesting, but like... I recently posted an outfit on SWD, and, among the other criticisms I recieved, some people told me it looked like I was trying to split the baby between CM and SWD, which... felt very confusing, since that distinction always felt...

    Canali Suit Quality

I think that, if you're buying from a Canali store, you should be good. it's one of those lines listed under the 3 rating. Maybe one of their department store offerings is half canvassed, I'm not sure.

    The Official Dieworkwear Appreciation Thread

More like, he was yearning for the golden years when people had actual experience with multiple bespoke tailors and interesting opinions on the differences between cuts, and now the best users have left and the people left here don't know as much ,don't have as much experience with bespoke...

    Canali Suit Quality

See this suit guide for quick quality ratings. Mainline Canali is fully canvassed. I've seen it go down to like $500 for a suit at sample sales... but that was years ago, I'm sure even sample sale prices are higher now. $1200 for a fabric you like and a fit you like, seems like a pretty good...
