    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

From what I understand/see, the 55-last boots on a wedge sole (i.e., the Rambler) already have a lineman shank incorporated into the build for the express purpose of keeping up the heel height and arch support without having an actual heel. So, there's no reason to ask for a lineman shank on...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Pretty much anything I've tried on roughout has resulted in some level of it sort of turning into waxed flesh type stuff. Obenaufs did that in a serious way, but recently I applied some Collonil 1909 cream (supposedly similar to the very light Bick 4) and it had similar results. I just wouldn't...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Well, the squeaking comes from leather rubbing against leather. In many (most?) welted shoes made from quality materials, where there are two layers of leather (e.g., insole and midsole/outsole), there is usually a cork filler between them that would mitigate the squeak. However, the all-leather...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I regularly do stuff like this! Swinging those heavy pendulums does add up, but I find that after a couple of days the comfort really starts to set in. They're not the ideal city-walking footwear, but since many of my trips involve a mix of terrain, I like having one reliable pair of footwear...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I wonder if air pressure changes on airplanes have some major effect on squeaks? I had a really similar experience - sometimes I have squeaks in my White's. Just last month I went to Budapest and my left boot had this bonkers squeak with each step. Then I fly back to Ireland...squeak gone.

The Rambler is literally that, though.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Well there you go. The 5050 last has the narrower, more pointed MP toe shape.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Actually, they fit me perfectly. I'm really not sure why the facings are so far apart on these compared to my other Bounty Hunters in the same size (see below). These also have far fewer wears and, since it's essentially CXL, I expect that over time leather will stretch and the gap will close a bit.

Wore my olive waxed flesh Bounty Hunters today. Love these boots:

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Recently took the Bounty Hunters to Budapest for a week's worth of adventure. They saw loads of wear on pavement, cobblestones, gravel paths, etc. I was very happy to be back in White's again after six weeks of wearing unseasonable low-top shoes after getting a lower leg tattoo. The heel caps...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I've worn my commando-soled MPs and Bounty Hunters on numerous short hikes. I'm talking walking on footpaths with nothing more than a rucksack without much up and down. I have also worn both with a fair bit of up and down and scrambling over rocks. You start to feel the heavy weight of those...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I don't own either of those models, but the Hiker seems like a sort of odd choice for a first pair of White's. It's a low-arch last (so you miss out on the legendary Arch-Ease), and doesn't really capture the classic White's aesthetic. For the intended purpose (hiking), even if this model is...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Now I don't own any 4811's but from what I remember reading, they basically fit the same as the 55 except the 4811's toe box is both taller and slightly narrower, so the same size may actually work for you. Probably someone else who owns both could confirm or deny.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Yep, looks like the top of the heel block on the left boot is just sort of pushed in/up a bit. Over time this is going to happen even more extensively on both boots and it will even out and you'll never even notice.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Also if you're planning on wearing these boots in the cold, unless you need them for safety reasons, absolutely do not get a steel toe.

    Wesco Boots!

Answered my own question by asking Baker's. I'm not sure if they won't switch to an MP toe on a packer in general, but I was told that the 1339 MP toe-last only goes up to a narrow E width so won't work for my feet, and was steered away from getting a standard packer-lasted boot as it doesn't...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

To be honest, while a lot of Indonesian makers are making some great looking boots at good prices, I just can't bring myself to jump back into that water. I had a pair of service boots from Txture and disliked them enough that I gave them away. The fit was all wrong (even though I sent detailed...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Sure, and there are things non-workwear that are even more expensive than that. I would have to be rolling in cash to spend more than about a thousand bucks on a pair of shoes. I'm just a teacher/researcher, so I don't think that will ever be in the cards for me. I'm not saying they're...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

You could always do like I did and go study somewhere, then get on the path to residency/citizenship after graduating. Here in Ireland they offer a two-year visa after finishing a graduate degree programme, during which you can work full time and get into a job that will sponsor your visa for...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Replying to the wrong post of yours but I don't really want to wade back through six pages of meth-addled nonsense to find the proper one: maybe you could look into Rancourt? I seriously feel like they're a great company as a sort of complement to White's. Much more lightweight and flexible...
