New & Lingwood - Loose Buttons
They are definitely worth a try. My observations are: - Lovely quality cloth. - Collars can be slightly oddly shaped (and I'm not just talking about their extreme cutaways). - I stand by what I said about the buttons on the gauntlet; I have seen it happening with even more shirts from them...- HoratioNelson

New & Lingwood - Loose Buttons
For the best part of 10 years now, I have owned - and continue to buy - a number of New & Lingwood (RTW) shirts. I have noticed, especially in the last 2 years but probably longer, that the buttons on the gauntlet become come loose/fall off after even just one wash. I put it down to bad luck...- HoratioNelson

In fact, I'm sure that if one had enough time to compare a selection of the Church's and C&J windows at the Royal Arcade/Cheapside with what's on display at Burlington Arcade/Jermyn St, there's definitely much more brown in the latter.- HoratioNelson

On the few occasions that I've left work at a decent time and strolled from St Pauls towards Jermyn St and through Mayfair, you do see a (subtle) shift in dress (those hedgies and the like). If I worked in St James or Mayfair I'd be ever so more included to try a pair of brown shoes.- HoratioNelson

I tried to polish my Hallams yesterday evening. Looked nothing like that, though I only spend about 3 minutes per shoe with one layer of cream on each... Perhaps I'll set aside 90 mins this weekend as they really look great.- HoratioNelson

Help picking tie for dinner interview for newbie (to the forum, not to interviewing)
Navy shrit really should go with a white or light blue shirt. The navy suit and the suggested ties simply will not work with that grey shirt. I think the top combo looks OK, but it's hard to tell when the picture isn't so detailed. As for the subsequent post with the checked shirt, a) the tie pattern is similar in size and colour to the shirt pattern, so it's not ideal; b) open neck would look better. Hmm.. Umbrella the most useful thing - go along to James Smith & Sons on New Oxford Street - they do decently built and quitessentially British umbrellas starting from about £45.
