Loden wool, woven in Tirol for centuries, is known for its resistance to cold and wetness. Our project in collaboration with Epaulet introduces Alpine Loden, a modern 18oz fabric blend of 75% merino wool and 25% nylon, woven in Italy. It's lighter, more durable, wind-resistant, and more comfortable than traditional Loden fabric. Partnering with Rochester Tailored Clothing, we offer custom garments like sportcoats, suits, and overcoats, made to your specifications. Learn more about the Loden collection here.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I don't know what the solution to this particular situation is, but it sure as **** ain't this. Selling $600+ boots and then telling customers to just 'live with' any defects is a surefire way of making sure that customer will never buy from you ever again. Quoting $200 for a repair and then...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

I wouldn't lose heart. It's normal practice for warranties to be actioned via the retailer who sold you the goods (it's even recommended by the FTC to contact the retailer in the first instance), so the fact you got a speedy response from Viberg should be encouraging; you're not getting palmed...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

Just to play devil's advocate here, there's no guarantee that double cordovan or raw shell will be cheaper for Horween to produce just because there are fewer finishing steps. There's an interesting Stitchdown podcast with Phil Kalas of Ashdown Leather (who used to work at Horween), where he...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

I asked about this on Viberg's Facebook group, because I wasn't too pleased by the news either. Their authorised repair partners are Bakers in the USA and Vince DeVitos in Canada. Viberg confirmed the following: "They will have full support from the factory. Including our channelled insoles...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I'd say the Smoke Jumper would be a good choice. They're not necessarily winter boots in the sense of 'Arctic expedition' levels of cold, but with a pair of warm socks, they'll be fine in snow and slush. Rough-out leather is great for harsh conditions, being easy to clean and standing up well...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Yeah, that does look crappy. I understand the point that it probably won't affect the integrity of the boot, but that's a bit besides the point. Accidentally sending out a pair of boots that are two different colours wouldn't affect their structural integrity either, but it's still a screw up...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

More customisation may come with time. It's not unheard of for White's to limit custom options on new products until production is fully up and running, and then allow more modifications over time. For example, when the MP boot was first released White's didn't allow much customisation, but more...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

White's particular implementation of 'hand-welted' is a variant on stitchdown; the upper is folded out underneath the welt, and then the outsole stitching goes through the welt, the upper, the midsole and the outsole. It's like a welt on top of a stitchdown. In practical terms, I don't think...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I think I can spot the strategy here! The base price for the 'Original' hand-welted 350 Cutter is now $700. The stitchdown C350 Cutter is just $575. Similar with the hand-welted Nomad ($700) compared to the stitchdown Cykel ($600), or the 'Original' 350 Cruiser ($670) vs the stitchdown C350...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

White's will do a combo last, but I think an A width at the heel and a D width at the forefoot might be a bit too much of a disparity. Usually you can mismatch the front and rear of the last by a width or two, but an A heel matched with a D forefoot might be pushing it. Speak to Bakers; their...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

I see what you mean, but this is a genuine pre-order. Viberg's production is really tiny; there's an interview with Brett Viberg on YouTube where he talks about pre-orders, and he says, "if it's a pre-order you might sell like 10 pairs". He also mentions that, "the brand is bigger and more...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I do get that, but that's your sensibilities; it's what you look for in a boot. And I'm similar, but I can see the other side too. I'm sure there would be an army of Alden fans who would look at, say, White's level of finishing, and ask, 'how the hell are you willing to pay over $600 for that...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

There's an interesting counterpoint article to that Rose Anvil video on 100wears.com, where he writes a well constructed argument the other way. The article goes into more depth, but the thrust is that at a given price-point, you just have to decide which compromises you're prepared to make...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

Sure, it's always been how most pre-orders have been sold. My point was simply that you can either look at is as a bad thing (a 'no interest loan', which it isn't), or as a good thing; buying now gets you the product at today's prices, which are only going to go up over time. It's just a...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

I think these uber bootmakers are a good way of giving perspective of where we sit in the grand scheme of things. There are people on Reddit forums genuinely disappointed that the pair of Doc Martens they bought gave out after a year, because the $150 they spent on them was more than they'd...

Or locking the price in at today's rate when inflation is approaching double digits. It's payment for goods and services rendered, collected in advance. It doesn't meet any working definition of a loan.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

From a UK perspective, you need a visa or a green card. Getting a travel visa for a few weeks to go on holiday is easy enough, but you usually need your employer to sponsor your application if you want a work visa. If you want to move from the UK to the US permanently, you usually need a green...

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

A few years ago me and my girlfriend were planning on staying in Tye Haus cabin in Skykomish. Then some chap ate an undercooked bat from Wuhan market, and international travel suddenly got a bit complicated.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

JD Gabbard lives out of a trailer in the woods, pretty much totally off grid. Even the outsole stitcher he uses is pedal powered, so he can work without electricity if he has to. He's quite a character.

    Custom White's Boots ... Thoughts?

Yeah, they're one of those styles you need to nail the sizing on. I was only really confident getting a pair of Mr Lou's after I'd had a pair of lace up Wesco's in the same last. With laces, you've got a bit of adjustment across the instep; with engineers, they either fit or the don't.
