The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

Yeah these were brand new OTR and I had them altered. This is the work that was done on each according to the tags attached Glen Plaid GF Charcoal 1818

The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

Just got these two suits back from Brooks Brothers in Rockefeller Plaza and noticed these ripples on my shoulders. I was told it’s because my shoulders are high/squared on this site and that they could be fixed with a good tailor. Can anyone recommend me a tailor that can do this? Any idea how...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

Would this be considered an advanced/expensive job? I know most tailors avoid shoulders. I’m going to see if anyone in the NYC Tailors forum can recommend someone

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

I just got back two suits from Brooks Brothers and have a question about the shoulders. These ripples on each jacket are driving me crazy and I can’t understand why it’s doing that and if it’s fixable. The charcoal one is more prominent than the grey glen plaid jacket. I’ll post more photos of...

The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

Sorry, if this has been asked before, I start a new position next Monday and need three pants hemmed and cuffed. They’re pretty expensive pants and was wondering if anyone knew of a tailor in Brooklyn that wasn’t supper expensive

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

It’s just for the office. Im starting a new position as a paralegal manager so im just fine tuning my wardrobe and switching my style up a tad. Keep in mind this is the suit completely unaltered, so the waist will be taken in and the pants and sleeves will be hemmed. I just don’t want it it to...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

I did get the waist taken in about an inch and a half I believe, along with the sleeve being hemmed and pants with cuffs. This suit has been sitting in my closet for a few years so they don’t make it anymore. I don’t think they shorten jackets at the store, but do you think it would be worth...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

So I finally took this suit to BB today for alterations and the tailor and manager insisted that the jacket was way too long and I needed a 38S instead or a 38R, any thoughts? I assumed jacket length was mostly preference and it just needed to cover your butt. And I can’t help but believe that...

    Meermin Mallorca Shoes

Anyone know where I can find shoe trees that fit the hiro last? I purchased some oxfords at the SoHo location but they are sold out everywhere

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

@ppk will do! @DorianGreen Here’s a snap of me with the jacket buttoned traditionally. What do you think? Switched out the wingtips for some loafers 😃

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

Funny you say that! I want an English cut suit badly. But I’ve had sort of a negative experience with structured shoulders bc my left shoulder slouches a bit more than my right so OTR is tough. It’s possible I just haven’t looked hard enough I might go this route MTM

fair enough! I appreciate the honestly. Thats why I post. I was humbled on here years ago with my skinny fits as a teen thinking I was that guy lol

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

hmm ok. Maybe that style won't work on this jacket then. I love how it looks on Ralph Lauren so thats what inspired me. And this is a purple label jacket so I thought id pay homage in my head haha

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

what would you suggest I get done? Do you think it could be because I have the bottom button done? it gives a more hour glass shape when its traditionally buttoned.

Any know of a tailor in NYC that can replace the yellowed pockets/lining on these pants? Is is worth the cost? Idk how much something like this would run me.

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

I would leave it as is and shorten the sleeves a bit. I wouldn’t compromise the fuller fit bc this is supposed to go over a suit, which I love bc it’s getting harder to find overcoats that actually serve their purpose these days. They seem to be making them slimmer and slimmer

    Suit or costume?

I respectfully disagree on most of this. Some of your advice is literally the look I am trying to avoid. I will never ever taper my pants and I feel great in braces. But I respect your opinion.

    Suit or costume?

Well that sounds boring! I don’t like the idea of wearing a suit because you have to. And agreed on the bankers collar comment. Not a big fan of Mayor “in da club” Adams

    Suit or costume?

I believe this brings up a whole new conversation. What are well dressed men wearing in NYC? I’ve always assumed that we were such a melting pot that we encompassed all styles. Unless we’re more known for that Wall Street Gordan Gekko look. I’m not a fan of contrast collars but he did have...
