The unofficial Drake's London Appreciation Thread

The downtown NY hipsters have kidnapped Michael Hill and are keeping him in a closet somewhere on Canal Street. When they featured Walter Schreifels as some sort of style guru you knew they had lost the plot. Still good for socks and pocket squares and the occasional tie if you really ever need...

NWT Drake's Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan in Navy and Charcoal

I have the camel hair versions which I love. But if you ever have any of the cashmere rollnecks in your inventory I would love to snap up another of those. I assume they are also made by William Lockie? I got one for Xmas a few years back; I wear the hell out of it this time of year and it still...

You can pick one brand for the rest of your life for suits, shirts, ties, and shoes. Money is no object. Who do you pick?

I bought way too many pairs of William Abraham socks (aka more than one). They photograph beautifully. They do not wear or wash beautifully. Are they even still in business?

You can pick one brand for the rest of your life for suits, shirts, ties, and shoes. Money is no object. Who do you pick?

W Well, Emma Willis makes bespoke shirts. She also makes boxer shorts. So I suppose it's not that much of a stretch.

There's no one brand for everything. No bespoke tailor also makes shoes. Huntsman + Cleverley and you're done, although Budd also make lovely shirts.

The packaging seems to have become a bit hit-or-miss over the past few years. I have stacks of the blue, then the grey-on-blue boxes with scarves and pocket squares neatly folded inside. But we've recently gotten items that were intended as gifts with no presentation box. On a related note I...

I think it's the same price as RTW but there is a link to enquire about it on their website.

Yo, no. But I am living in America.

Hahaha. I suspect that the Drake's supply chain is a lot more complex than it was when most of the stuff was coming into and out of Haberdasher Street and the redoubtable Ms Coles was overseeing everything. Those buttons are probably sitting in a drawer in Italy or perhaps someplace even more...

    Help with Cleverley

Here's the most recent. Black carbon alligator. Before you ask, yes they also sent me the right shoe. Please excuse the tired linoleum but I was at the doctor.

    Help with Cleverley

Not new, just have rarely bothered to participate until recently. I suppose my opinions are as valid as your (joking, I hope) call for physically assaulting someone whom you don't like for whatever reasons. My experience with both Georges has been consistently positive going back more than a...

    Help with Cleverley

That's not very gentlemanly of you. I was in the shop about a year ago and watched both Adam and George deal with a very sniffy, snotty customer graciously and patiently. So maybe the problem isn't them?

A true bespoke tailor can give you whatever you want. Suggest you speak to Patrick Murphy at Davies & Son. A delightful and very talented fellow, and their prices are a tick or two below some of the more boldfaced names on the opposite side of the Row.

Almost small enough to qualify as "puppytooth (no, I'm not being facetious)."

Most important handwork on a shirt

At the risk of sounding pedantic, I believe the word is "yoke," not "yolk." Not that I don't enjoy a lovely scrambled egg on toasted rye with lashings of fresh ground black pepper.

    Help with Cleverley

Really surprised to read this. I’ve commissioned a dozen pairs of bespoke shoes from them in the past six or seven years. Nine were perfect out of the box. One was not exactly the color we agreed on and the other two had minor fit issues, probably because low vamp loafers are a challenge given...
