Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

The difference between E and F has more to do with overall instep volume than it does with just the width of the shoe. I have made the mistake of assuming that width was the only difference and it's not. I once obtained a Chelsea on the (I think) 202 last in an F fitting to compare it to the E...

    Question regarding style of overcoat

    Understood. I appreciate the explanation.

    Question regarding style of overcoat

You are, of course, entirely entitled to your opinions, which is all your assertions of fact are. As are mine. But you did present your opinions of overcoat length and some other statements about double-breasted lapels and jackets as some sort of statements of general truths. So I was wrong when...

    Question regarding style of overcoat

I guess I'd have to ask what kind of jackets you're wearing where the peaked lapels "droop and bend"? I've never seen or experienced such a thing. This is just about complete nonsense. An overcoat should come well below the knees, several inches at least. Otherwise, what's the point? Also...

    Spectator Appreciation

Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

These were delivered today, and they make me very happy! Custom Malvern III on the 202 last, made up in snuff suede and lily-white suede.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I'll add my two cents' worth. For a first tuxedo, get a black, single breasted, peaked lapel jacket with grosgrain facings. Do not get vents in the coat. All good advice except for the vents. Ventless jackets are not somehow less comfortable, nor do they present a problem when sitting. Having...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

Thank you. Perhaps I should bring it out and give it an airing, again.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

It certainly sounded interesting when I bought it. But, I never really warmed up to it and I don't really wear it much any more.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

It's not all that strange. Indeed, unless you're quite close, it is not really discernible as seersucker at all.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

It might. It's so difficult to speculate. Personally, I'm not averse to mixing black separates (I have a black seersucker dinner jacket that I seldom wear, but I wear it with regular black tuxedo trousers), but midnight blue might be less successful.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I would not. I wear all sorts of different color dinner jackets with black trousers, but midnight blue and black just doesn't seem to work. I've tried the combination in front of a mirror at home, and it just looked to me like I'd just accidentally grabbed the wrong jacket.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I'm not sure who you mean but it ain't us. Both of those glasses are quite modest compared to typical champagne and martini glasses. The coup is about a 4oz size and the Nick & Nora is a 5oz size, but I usually make no more than a 4oz drink. Most martini glasses are basically buckets. Both...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

As I know you have many items made specifically for you, I'm sure you understand my point that for the price of a Tom Ford jacket purchased off-the-rack, you could have one made for you and have enough cash left over to wear that jacket to take someone out to a nice dinner.

Formal Friday with cocktails. Specifically a French 75 for the lady and a Martini for me.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

Under no circumstances purchase a Tom Ford anything. You can have the exact same thing or better made bespoke for half the price. Seriously.
