A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

Fully convinced (except for grey flannel on me - though I'm willing to try something like that on in a shop and see how it looks). Otherwise, I agree that 18-20oz flannel would be great for winter. Originally, I was looking for something more like that - just didn't see any that had both the...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

Solid Navy 4-season I've already got. And soon will have something VERY close to solid Navy as a summer suit. I'm curious why fresco though. The summer suits I'm making are fresco or similar, but why for a 4-season suit? As for the winter suit, maybe I need to try one on again, but I've...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

As always, thanks everyone for the helpful advice! There seem to be some recurring themes here, like (1) don’t buy everything at once (I’m not, but I do indeed have a lot planned over the coming 6 months or so), (2) fusing/canvas is not the most important thing, fit (probably) is (couldn’t...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

Now this is interesting, and makes me worry that the two suits I'm having made will either pucker, or will not be nearly as light, cool, and breathable as I'd hoped :- ( However, I have three full canvas Zegna suits made from their very lightweight "High Performance" fabric (probably ~200g...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

Interesting. I think they offer fully fused, but I'm not entirely sure. I do know at least one offers half canvas, and that I'm paying both extra for full canvas. So it sounds like if deciding whether to go full canvas on a 4-season or winter suit, I should choose the winter one. Thanks!

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

And thanks everyone for the helpful advice! That's actually not what I'm doing, but if I'm happy with the two I've now ordered, I will order one more, and at some point over the next 6 months or so, I should have had made a total of at least four. Indeed, I ideally need one or two more than...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

I understand your point, but having not found any interesting MTM tailors whom I can use who do not offer both with and without canvas ... . Of course, this may be helpful advice for other readers. Though I'm having a lot of fun reading about and learning new things, the only thing I'm trying...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

Not atypical build at all, but apparently atypical taste.

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

No worries, it was a good read! Actually, too good. Oh no, I don't need a new hobby ... Come to think of it though, while I can see the logic of the RTW approach, I can't do it. Not when pants are narrow, flat fronted, with wastes 5 cm below where they are comfortable on me. So I might try...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

I think/hope you are right, I don't need to know all the details. But I'm in the process of having a lot of new suits made, and tempting though it might be to go full canvas on all of them, I need to save somewhere. And while I'm not willing to choose fabrics I don't like, or tailors I don't...

A different full/half canvas, fused/sewn question: When does it matter most?

Thanks - that's more helpful than all the other threads I read on the topic! Not sure how/why I missed it. And thanks, jefferyd, for creating/writing it!

    Canvas and suit construction

P.S. As everyone else noted, this is a super helpful thread. Wish I'd seen it sooner!

    Canvas and suit construction

Hmm, I am paying a lot of money to have a full canvas suit made from ~195g fabric. If there is skin fuse, it surely covers less than a meter of fabric (in other words, less than 1.5m2), perhaps just 1/2 a meter. So if it weighs 20g per jacket, it's probably 40g per meter. And the 195g fabric...
