Technically yes, you are correct. I don’t believe John McHale made shoes with a veldschoen construction. I believe these are of gyw construction, using a type of storm welt. I could be wrong about that also! Lol

They are good year welt construction, with a storm welt. Veldschoen construction is where the upper is turned outwards and stitch down to a midsole and/or the outsole.

Those soles/heels look after market to me. Why do you believe they’re factory applied? I would expect much better quality from the factory....

Impossible is a very strong word...... Tods can be resoled, perhaps not exactly as they were originally, such as with bonded, one piece, proprietary, rubber soles.....but often, in a manner that is a structural improvement to the original. Such as with a Blake/McKay stitch incorporated. The...

Cobblers in Canada (Toronto or major Canadian cities) - goodyear welt and JR Rendenbach

If I was replacing the welt, I would absolutely use the same holes and stitch it on by hand. I would then indeed stitch the soles using a machine designed specifically for that purpose, and that purpose only. I do offer closed channels, but would normally only do what was done originally, unless...

So when you refer to ‘hand welted shoes’, you are referring specifically to the Norwegian welted shoes, correct? Because any good year welt can be hand stitched, but as far as I know, there is no machine to stitch a Norwegian welt to the shoe. Factories use a machine to stitch the welt to the...

Thanks brother! Er, I mean, Kenneth.....lol just to clarify, the machine that QC has does NOT stitch the welt to the shoe. It stitched the sole to the welt. EVERy shoe repair shop should have one of those machines if they are to be able to do the job properly. I consider the machine to be on of...

Well to begin with, I don’t see many Norwegian welted shoes in my shop, so I’ve actually never rewelted a pair. However, most shoes don’t require new welts, and resoling a pair of Norwegian welted shoes would be the same as any other good year welted shoe. Now most shoes are not ‘hand welted’...
