What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

Actually, nevermind. I will remain mum from now on and just take my lickings. Please forgive my previous insolence. Any more opinions about the "asterisk" would be appreciated, be they sardonic, sanguinary, or educational.

What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

Wow, it's easy to ruffle feathers. I never claimed the "cordwainer" word and others you used (like frippery and gimrack were not somewhere in some dictionary- I never claimed they were not verified words.. I merely said they were not in my two normal dictionaries. And this fact alone should...

Question as to Corneliani shoe quality- the seam on the tongue edge

Perhaps. I was merely suggesting (asking actually) that it "may" be a sign of exceptionalism, since I have yet to see this feature on any other shoes (including many $1000+ ones from both Italian and English factories)- and I have really looked. It is generally hard to tell what is exceptional...

What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

Thanks for all the input. I'd still like to possibly elicit a bit more by way of experienced answers, and a tad less jocularity. The thread has only been up for less than a day, so perhaps not all the geniuses on SF were at their computers in that short period... so there may still be other...

Any thoughts? I'll even welcome witty sarcasm...

What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

Interesting. It's another possibility, but I do not find it on any of my Italian shoes but one (I have 10 pairs of Italians 450-1150 in price). And the other picture I have posted is of a $1500 Sutor shoe on ebay presently, and that star mark is on the bottoms, not the heel. The seller tells...

What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

Actually JS... the first few replies were sarcastic... in fact, from what I read in other threads this place is sarcasm galore. But I will try to remember my place... thanks (no sarcasm in that).

Question as to Corneliani shoe quality- the seam on the tongue edge

I have a pair of Corneliani shoes that for years I have wondered if they were exceptional or not, because I have not yet seen a pair of shoes with a sealed seam on the tongue edge- it is always a raw edge, even on super-high end shoes. Except these shoes have that extra bit of quality for some...

What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

being new to SF, i have no idea who DFW is.. there was no introduction as to his shoe prowess and reputation. So perhaps don't jump down my throat, Mr. Quadcammer. And I did express my thanks, which is more than most people do in these forums when help is given (so I've been reading). And I...

What does the STAR * asterisk on the heel / sole of some shoes indicate?

That said, thanks very much for your input and time- at least it wasn't a joke. But I don't agree. Seems like rank speculation to me because the stars are so random- I have rarely seen the mark, and only on high-end shoes (meaning ones in the $600+ price range). Seems to be something Italian...
