If you have to "grin and bear it" or settle for "good enough" on a new shoe/boot, it's the wrong size and you should move on. You received some good suggestions from others here, and should be able to size comfortably without an insert. In some cases a certain last just may not suit your foot...

Snuff suede shortwings on the red microcell sole. From a recent visit to B&M in Seattle. No way to escape that place without a lighter wallet .

I do better with an 8.5E than the 9D. My left pinkie toe can definitely feel the difference. Might be related to where my toes are placed - my HTB measurement is a full size larger than my heel-to-toe size.

I had to get toe plates put on mine, or I would have destroyed the toe in about a dozen wears. Now I like the soles even less with the plates and rarely wear the boots. Don't get me wrong @basu13, I'd really love this boot on a rubber sole. I can see the same thing is going to happen on my GS...

I have those as well - a great looking boot and I think the double leather sole will last forever - with a caveat for me. I've also learned I dont like it. I find them so stiff to the point where it changes my gait, and I tend to wear out the toe quickly. On sidewalks it reminds me of walking on...

Same last, so same fit - whichever style floats your boat! Norwegian tankers like the Ottawa seem less common out in the real world, so I give them a little edge in the style column.

I like a fit that is more snug than loose too. But comfortably snug. When you say your mid-foot is getting squeezed in the 9.5D - that isn't a good thing. Tried the E width? You might need more instep volume. The Leo D certainly fits me narrower than a Barrie or Trubalance for example - I use...

Agreed. I was surprised a little with the Leo recently - went from a 8.5E which fits well, and took a chance on the 9D, which turned out to be a bit too narrow still.

Well, I believe its made for smooth leathers in general. I've used it on leather jackets, car seats, etc, all with good results. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use it as long as your not talking about suede or something.

Nice! Wow, biweekly is a whole lot of conditioner on these boots! I wish there was a men's Diesel model in the black CXL like the Nora, with the natural welt and rubber sole. Especially with the black CXL used on the field boot that is not struck through in the dye process.

It's so soft that it probably needs the structure, and might velcro to socks if it it wasn't. Speculating of course.
