The Anderson & Sheppard Expatriates Thread

The jacket looks great of course. I really like the shirt. Do you mind me asking where you get your shirts made?

    What things affect suit durability

Since I don’t live near anything but typical run of the mill dry cleaners I just dry clean as infrequently as possible. Once a year is normal, twice if I have a visible dirty spot, which is rare. Interesting that this thread has brought in maintenance of a suit. I was thinking more the...

    What things affect suit durability

I don’t throw them away until the material disintegrates. I don’t like the shine, but it doesn’t bother me enough. It is most noticeable on Dark Navy suits, but I also get more compliments from the general public on my navy suits than grey suits.

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

How much do you think weave matters? Twill better than plain? Also with regards to construction, machine stitching better than hand stitching for longevity?

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

https://www.styleforum.net/threads/what-things-affect-suit-durability.704588/#post-11111901 I just posted the above thread in the classic menswear forum. I was hoping people from this thread could comment on what sorts of things you have noticed that affect the durability and longevity of your...

    What things affect suit durability

I was wondering what things people have found on this forum that affect the durability and longevity of a suit? I have worn suits, pretty much 5 days a week since 2009, with a break during Covid. I have had cheap Jos. A Bank suits, on up to MTM and a local bespoke tailor made suit. In...

    What's Your Go-to Polo Shirt?

I see a lot of Sunspel in this thread and have been considering them for years. One issue is I like to tumble dry my polos, and the care instructions say not to do that for Sunspel. I can tumble dry my Ralph Lauren Polo polos with no issue, but I did that to a Lacoste once and it was never the...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I have asked the question of a good doeskin a couple of time without answer. Holland and Sherry has a cashmere doeskin if that interests you. Paul Stuart and J Press have RTW doeskin blazers, which I don’t really want but may go there for lack of a better option. I’ll probably contact Steed and...

On another note, what about a navy camel hair? I have never seen camel hair in navy myself by I have a Charcoal camel hair sport coat and I do like it...

A heavy serge I could see. Tweed would definitely bring down the formality, no?

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I agree flannel lacks the character for a sport jacket, but I have always considered a navy blazer different than other sport jackets. I consider it to be more formal, and none of the traditional fabrics for a blazer like serge, hopsack, and doeskin have that much character themselves. I too am...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I have always preferred worsted flannel to regular flannel. I know that is a sin to a lot on this website, but I have always preferred more durable fabrics. Never really considered worsted flannel for an odd jacket like a blazer, but I could see it working. Definitely keep us up to date on...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

I too am looking for a dark navy winter blazer. It’s hard to tell a lot of details from the online Taylor and Lodge book. What type of fabrics are you finding in the book itself? Any doeskin? Just heavier serge? Something else?

Yes Matthew mentioned that as an option when they mailed the suit. I was wondering if they can tell much from a zoom call. But I guess I will give it a shot.

The Anderson & Sheppard Expatriates Thread

Just received my first Steed MTM. I'm loving the jacket so far, most comfortable jacket I have ever worn. There may be a few adjustments they need to make when I see them again but nothing has stood out. This is the first time I have received a jacket without material bunching up under the...
