That's interesting! I feel like both examples are knockoffs but not fakes though - I would describe a fake as an attempt to be considered the authentic piece, so logos, markings that the original might have. Do you wear a specific style of socks with your shoes? that could be one of the defining factors. Do you feel like the issue is width or length specifically? It's a great question and definitely one that's hard to answer for a couple of reasons. The reason they say you should have space at the front of the boot is so when you bend your foot your toe isn't pushing up against the toe box.
