Yeah I had read that Ruehl was A&F's attempt at targeting thirty-somethings, so I was curious. Then I walked into one, and every item looked exactly like A&F. I was completely dumbfounded.
Would I be correct in assuming that most people with >6" drops, who don't go for bespoke/MTM, buy their suits as separates? What do they do if the suit they want is not available for purchase as separates?
I'm a 40L, 32" and most RTW looks ridiculous on me, but I tried on a John Varvatos one...
Sweet, thanks Freddy. I made the pattern myself with the help of a friend who did some draping on me. The fabric is something cheap ($9/yard). It seems kinda low thread count, but it's 100% cotton.
Is the lining the interfacing? I just used plain bleached muslin from Joann's. Is there...
houserichichi, I followed the Coffin shirtmaking book ("Coffin Shirtmaking" into amazon.com ought to bring it up). I think it's a pretty great book.
As far as the Jantzen collars, I was looking at one of their pics earlier today, and their collar did seem a little, err, cardboard-y?
Oh what's wrong with the Jantzen collars? Mine is copied from a Club Monaco shirt I have. And I made stay slots, but I didn't insert them for the photo, so it's a bit floppy.
Great first try - how much prior sewing experience have you had?
Thanks all. I took a one-day sewing class (made a pillowcase) and then a 5-week class. And I made a few prototype shirts before this one (front, back and sleeves only, with simple seams). Also a couple practice collars. And a few...
very nice for a first attempt! by the way, you look like your avatar!
Hehe, oh? Thanks! Actually it looks pretty nice from a distance, and I don't think the average person would notice any problems. Up close, any SF reader would find some mistakes .
Actually, I'm pretty stoked with how it came out, since it's my first one. Though it is unwearable because the sleeves are ridiculously narrow (don't know how I managed that). Thus I didn't bother with the cuffs. So no smart-ass comments on the lack of cuffs .
Anyway, I can handle most of the...
I saw a kid in the paper named Anakin. I felt a mixture of pity for him and anger at his parents for thinking that was an appropriate name for their child.
My friend's sister named their baby boy Anakin. Was the paper from South Bend, IN? Anyway, it's disgusting.
Oh, and yes, the middle name...
Doctors have heard lots of stories MUCH more embarrassing than jock itch. No big deal. Hell I've had it several times! The Lamisil topical stuff (not the spray) always works for me.
As far as the toes, I'm pretty sure the pill is the only thing that works for that.
Wow I think that's ballsy! Wearing a tie to work would earn me snide comments all day long, so I haven't even managed to try that yet, much less a suit.
