    Cars We Drive!

Mrs. Dino was driving the RAV about 80mph a few weeks ago and a Seagull dive bombed us, and there was a loud thud!!!! I was hoping a headlight cover didn't get cracked and that nothing got dented. Got out the plastic plate frame was broken and the license plate was bent pretty severely...

Looks great! Congrats and enjoy them! Also thanks for the side by side case comparison! I was wondering what the difference in cases would look like.

Anyone seen the trailer for the new film, "House of Gucci?" Looks like Al Pacino who plays Aldo Gucci may be wearing a Breguet based on the straight lugs and the subdial placement moonphase, power reserve and date. Sorry for the grainy photo...it was just a quick photo from my computer...

Congrats!!! I haven't seen a St. Mortiz chronograph in many years. I tried one on with a bracelet, in their NYC boutique I think in the early 2000s. IIRC the base movement is very nice, an F.Piguet 1185 (same base movement used in the AP RO chronograph, the 1st and 2nd gen Overseas...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I've read several of the books Inca Gold, Sahara (different from the movie), Atlantis Found, and a few others and they are very entertaining. I can't remember which books I have read that reference the watch. There is another book series (the name escapes me at the moment, I'd have to check...

The two friends that own Doxa dive watches, got them because they read the books. Although perhaps for their taste differs from Dirk/Clive's taste or because my friends don't go scuba diving, but neither of them opted for the classic orange dial version that Dirk wore. I have another friend...

Congrats on your new watch! I never really understood the attraction to a rubber strap on a watch until I tried one on one of my watches. So I can definitely see it being a nice alternative and more comfortable than a steel bracelet in the summer. Plus one never has to worry about scratching...

Both of my friends that have one, have the 300T. Neither has complained about the bracelet and the non-articulating first links, but they have large wrists so it's probably not an issue for them. It's also interesting to see in the first photo the domed crystal of the 300. I hadn't noticed...

For me the usability of the bezel to time things is the same. I don't actually pay attention to minutes on the Sub/diving bezel. I just move the triangle on the GMT or the Sub, to the duration of time I have on a parking meter (from where the minute hand currently is), or the duration of time...

Sorry to hear what a disaster your Nomos experience was. However, I'm glad to hear that you found something you really like and which is a nice reminder of your dad. Congrats and enjoy the new Longines!

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I'm not usually a fan of a hobnail bezel, but it's often because when Patek has done one in recent years it was paired with dainty little welded on lugs that are easily damaged/bent, or sheared completely off the case if they come in contact with something hard. That is a common issue with...

That's the classic version, which Clive Cussler describes the character in his books, Dirk Pitt, wearing. Cussler worked in dive shops in the 1960s and early 70s that that's when he encountered the watch. Supposedly, an orange dial was chosedn after tests revealed it offered the best contrast...

:rotflmao: I never give Cartier or any other brand a free pass, whether I own one or not. I'm not a fan of the Ballon Bleu, which has been a very successful model for Cartier (but I don't recall anyone posting one here). My wife wanted an owns an automatic Tank Francaise. Nothing fancy or...

If you can see the overlap on the Lange 1 as a possible flaw, but you can't see the obvious blunder in them cutting a date window into the band of the 24 hour counter, then you have an extremely serious case of selective blindness. Ooooh it's a Patek...I own some, so they can do no wrong...
