Help Me Ascertain the Worth/Value of this Suit

Giving someone a suit that's nowhere near their size is a little strange... ...but this suit is not junk. I purchased a suit much like it recently -- same neck label (minus the "Made in China tag) and hanger, identical lining, same finishing. It's 100% wool 150's, rather than your cashmere...

Is there a name for this kind of fabric?

It's a tonal stripe. A little slick for my taste, but it can work in the right setting.

    Is the belt buckle jewelry?

I would say it's just functional hardware for most of us -- largely an after-thought. But for guys who are serious about western wear, it's definitely jewelry. They spend a lot of money on those belt buckles, and many curate large collections of them...

Maintaining Red Wings (Leather Boots in General)

You can beat them up if you want, and they can definitely take it. But I like to care for my Beckmans. I brush them clean, saddle soap occasionally (as needed, usually a couple times a year), and apply Obenauf's LP regularly. Once the LP has soaked in, I wipe off the excess, then buff with a...

Allen Edmonds Independence Collection. Any Info, Pics, Price Range, Widths...?

I was at an AE trunk show yesterday, and looked at each of the Independence shoes. They're nice, but I really wasn't that impressed. The leather is a bit nicer, but not significantly so. Frankly, I'd say it's similar to what my older AE pairs have -- I think the leather quality has declined a...

    White Dress Shoe Care..

Wax the welt lacing before you get that wear on them, though. Cleaning that dirt is tough.

    White Dress Shoe Care..

Also, apply neutral wax over the welt stitching to keep it clean. Dirty stitching will show.

    White Dress Shoe Care..

I'd scrub them down with some saddle soap and a clean applicator brush, then wipe clean with a cloth. Then use a neutral cream polish for a low shine.

Vintage pins connected by a chain?

No luck? The chain is way to delicate for a watch, and I don't really see someone jamming this pin in to a tie.

Vintage pins connected by a chain?

Pins with chain. (11k. jpg file)I recently acquired a pair of vintage pins from my alma mater connected by a chain. I've seen them before in vintage jewelry stores, and I've attached a picture of something similar. How are these supposed to be worn? What is the purpose of the chain?

First nice suit for jazz pianist: which color?

Wow, I never would have guessed we'd have so many jazz musicians on this forum. I'm a jazz drummer working in DC, and I find that a slim black suit usually makes me feel the most jazzy, if you will. For business stuff, etc, I go elsewhere, but for jazz I like a black suit and a white shirt...

Seriously, who wears seersucker any more?

I spent my college years in New Orleans, where it's pretty much required.

    Paul Fredrick?

I've never bought a suit from them, but I've really learned to love their shirts, actually. I could probably wear the white 80's 2-ply oxford in trim fit with the windsor collar and french cuffs every day and be content. I don't know why, but it just fits me very well. Some of the other...

    Polishing brogues

It sucks. It just does. I usually use a wax polish, then carefully use a toothpick when the wax dries. Then I just use the usual shine brush and cloth combo and end up fine. Or you can just pay someone else to do it...

Can rains coats or macs be tailored

I have a single-breasted Burberry that I picked up for $50 in a vintage store a couple of years ago. My lucky day. The alterationist said he could take in the sides (though he didn't think it was necessary) for $65. He charges $45 to do the same on a normal-length sport coat. I declined.
