Poulsen Skone N&L Russian Reindeer

Hello,

I have for sale 2 pairs of Russian Reindeer shoes from my shoe collection.

THE MOST WONDERFUL LEATHER IN THE WORLD

In 1973 divers in the Plymouth Sound off of the coast of Cornwall, discovered the wreck of the Catherina von Flensburg, a Danish brigantine, which had sunk on its way from St Petersburg to Genoa in 1786.

Amongst the artefacts of the wreck, a quantity of Russian reindeer calf leather was discovered.

This unique leather has historically been known to possess almost legendary qualities. Treated with yeast and oat flour, its aroma and water resistance characteristics are unsurpassed. The secret production process had been lost in the early 1900's following the Russian Revolution.

Although the leather is over 300 years old it was wrapped in waterproof oilskins, which means it is as good today as when it was originally tanned.

Connoisseurs of craftsmanship will note the exquisite graining or cross hatching of the leather that was applied by hand, using a tiny patterned wooden hand stamp.

I have two pairs available for sale

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
