Strap yourself in for a veritable three-ring circus of incredible shirting. Due to a recent exercise regimen I’ve gone up a size in shirting, and so my gainz have now become your gains. This is no fun for me, let me tell you, because each one of these shirts are fantastic and clearing them all out breaks my heart. If you purchase these shirts, know that you will be blessed with godlike strength and fortitude, the ability to select wine at dinner like a sommelier, teleportation abilities, and dance moves to rival James Brown. Or you’ll just have a terrific shirt; only time will tell.
All of these shirts are from Gitman Brothers, made under Epaulet’s private label “Ashland” line with them. They’re all tagged Small, but fit like a Medium/size 15x34 (Euro 38) from most makers. Measurements for all shirts follow. As the shirts are all from Gitman, the fabrics are incredible, and sourced internationally. All of the fabrics are from top Italian mills, except for the Blue-Lavender Chambray at the end, which was custom woven for Gitman in Japan. Essentially, these fabrics are some of the best you’ll ever wear. Detailed descriptions below. All shirts were purchased new at retail for $165-$195, and some (the ones with the plain tags) were custom ordered. All shirts come from a pet-free, smoke-free home, and have been stored on wooden hangers in a closet with cedar and lavender, have been gently worn 3-6 times, and have always been professionally laundered. Most shirts have the fabled Gitman V-CA Sartorial Cutaway Collar, which rests gently on the shirt when worn and arches beautifully whether worn open or with a tie. It is my favorite collar bar none and great for both sport and business/bizcaz wear. Crucially, all shirts are also four-season shirts, so you can wear them now and keep wearing them. This listing starts dressy and gets more casual as the post goes on.

Second, on to one of two solids. This one is really the bees knees. Sure, it looks like a regular white shirt, but the story is in the fabric. This shirt is made of Gitman’s proprietary Zephyr Oxford, a very finely woven oxford cloth that holds a press for many wearings, and which breathes so well you can wear it even in the hottest summer days. It’s whisper soft, but isn’t insubstantial, and drapes beautifully. Because the cloth is woven, if you wear it wrinkled, untucked, and with the sleeves rolled up, it’ll look completely natural. Calling this a “staple” underestimates how wonderful this fabric is. So then, maybe it’s right to say that it’s basically the best white staple shirt imaginable. Mother of Pearl buttons throughout.

Third, a beautiful solid blue shirt in pinpoint oxford cloth. The color here is somewhere between a light blue and a French blue. Do we call that a true blue? Regardless, the shade is perfect. It doesn’t look fashion-ey, but also doesn’t look like Dad’s dress shirt. Most pinpoint oxfords are lower quality, but this one feels great to the touch and drapes like a dream. The texture of the pinpoint oxford cloth adds a lot of textural interest both from far away and from close up. It’s a great way to to an interesting textured solid blue shirt without going full end-on-end. Like the previous shirt, because this shirt is a woven oxford, it breathes very well in both hot weather and under a heavy jacket, and it holds a press for a very long time. Fourth, the Bunk Moreland Pink Shirt™ check. If you’re looking at this and thinking, “Oh man a pink shirt is not for me,” consider that historically pink is considered one of the most masculine colors available. Consider that there is no way to wear this shirt and look in the mirror and think anything but, “Oh, that’s good.” Because the shirt is done in a check and not a solid, it looks like you’re adding a subtle amount of visual interest to your usual fit. (Arguably, this is more wearable than the ubiquitous purple gingham check.) The scale of the check is an absolutely perfect medium scale for wear with any larger or smaller pattern, or with anything solid. It’s lightweight, too, so you’ll be reaching for it a lot in the coming months. Mother of Pearl buttons throughout.

Fifth, am I really selling this shirt? Seems like I’m dreaming. I kid you not that this is the single best shirting fabric I’ve ever encountered. I know that’s hyperbole, but there you have it. Hand tipped. This multi-color tattersall is of a perfect scale and design, and is woven in such a way that it feels incredibly soft to the touch and also breathes well (this combination is really Gitman’s thing with their higher end fabrics). It also avoids being too Americana-ish with the addition of forest green to the colorway. Of all the shirts here, I’d say this is the truest dress/sport crossover shirt. I should really price this at like $800 to convince myself not to sell it. But, anyway, here you are. I’ve never found a tattersall in a colorway and fabrication that I’ve liked nearly as much as this one. Buy it and I’ll stop crying already. Mother of Pearl buttons throughout.

Sixth, a frankly stunning Blue-Lavender Japanese Chambray. There's some gentle slubbiness in the fabric, and the hand on it is incredibly smooth; this shirt doesn't have the roughness that chambray usually has. As I recall, Gitman had it woven specially for them in Japan. The color tone is tough to capture exactly right, but it's a blue with a lavender cast -- definitely distinct from a typical blue shirt, but not loud or pastel-like either. The drape and fabrication are amazing, and it's very breathable for true four-season wear. It's an incredible fabric, and easy to wear both casually and in a business-casual way, as the chambray is very fine, but still with some casual slubbiness. Mother of Peal buttons throughout.
