I'm banging my head against the wall, on this one. I just bought these from Alden of San Francisco on 4/25/17, for $585 + tax ($643, total). I absolutely love them. The color is perfect. The detailing is perfect.
I am an idiot. I always treat my boots to a layer of natural beeswax, right when I get them. I have dozens of high-end boots with this natural, breathable protectant. The lighter color of these Natural Chromexcel (CXL) boots absorbed this wax a bit differently, compared to darker colored boots. (Or maybe you just notice it more on the lighter leather.)
As you can see, the wax absorbed into one particular spot on each boot, in front of the first outer eyelets. The leather there is now a bit darker than the surrounding leather.
For just that one reason, I am letting these go, for nearly half off of what I just paid for them. They are otherwise perfect. I have literally worn them on two days, for only a few hours each day.
If you're "OCD" like I am, these may not be for you. But if you're a normal human being, and you understand that these boots will look great as they age, and these two darker spots will soon just blend in with all the other natural wear marks, this is an excellent chance to get a pair of pretty expensive boots, for a very great price.
Please study the photos closely. They depict the condition of these boots well. The stitching on the right boot, right at the dark spot, is a little bit frayed, from me trying to brush out the extra wax. The integrity of the stitching is not compromised.
Thanks.
