Australia-Croatia.Graham,Graham,Graham,when will you learn the fans are there to watch the game not you. P.S. Its 2 yellows for a red,not3.
Yeah I think Graham Poll will have some very tough questions to answer. Some really dubious decisions (2 obvious penalties not given to Australia, Kewell slightly offside with the equalizing goal too, plus the 'forgetting I already carded him' thing) but...anyhow...more importantly...WOW. Australia rock [IMG] First time into the World Cup finals in 32 years, on paper we should be the easybeats, and now into the round of 16. Good for them. Of course now we have to play Italy, which certainly should end the fairytale, but I guess you never know your luck...

I think Australia have been fantastic and IMHO were very unlucky against the mighty Brazil.

Im going to go ahead and say i believe we will beat Italy. We have been playing very well, i think we out-played Brazil, but were unlucky not to do it where it counts. If they approach the game against the Italians with a nothing to lose approach, surely they can come out on top.

    Oh, please do tell.
Are you aware of what occurred in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and England? If not, please google Maradona "Hand of God". It doesn't get much more unsporting than that.

No, no...that was the referee's call. It happen to hit Maradona's hand and then it went in.

the u.s will do much better next time. contrary to popular opinion, i think they should hire another american as coach, but someone who will put in all the young guys, based on his own evaluations, rather than the player's reputation.

    if not, hire hiddink.

There is rumore that Klinsman will leave Germany no matter the result and that the USSF is already talking with him. He does live in SoCal and his wife is American.

Any other candidates? Someone over on Foxsportsworld.com mentioned Martin O'Neill? He says he's looking to get back into it after a year off with his sick wife.

    How about Alan Shearer?

    Here's the second round schedule

    Saturday
    Germany vs Sweden 11am
    Argentina vs Mexico 3pm
Both of these are worth watching I think.

    Sunday
    England vs Ecuador 11am
    Portugal vs Netherlands 3pm
If you only want to watch one, watch Port vs Neth. But I'd watch both.

    Monday
    Italy vs Australia 11am
?? (looks like Switzerland) vs Ukraine 3pm
If picking one, pick the earlier one.

    Tuesday
    Brazil vs Ghana 11am
    Spain vs ?? (S. Korea/France) 3pm
I think this second game will be good no matter which team it is. Brazil Ghana could be interesting, but Brazil will win.

whoops France just scored as I am typing this. If it ends like this France goes through.

I picked everyone who advanced except Australia... I had Japan coming out of that group instead. Bummer. There goes my perfect record...

Yes, yes, but must you play Silver Convention's "Fly Robin Fly" everytime Arjen Robben touches the ball? [IMG]

All of the above. Would love to see Klinsmann, but highly doubt it. He never joined MLS when he was still very capable and I know he was offered a deal.

Reyna announced his retirement, thank god. I don't blame him as much as Arena, who was too loyal to one of his players (Arena coached him at Virginia as well). Both Foudy and Waldo were calling for Bruce to bench claudio after the first game.

And why was Eddie Lewis in as a defender, instead of a midfielder? Our best crosser, but not our best defender. With him and Reyna on the pitch, we had two defensive turnstiles.

Time to reload. I'm really curious about our central defense, we seem to have the least amount of youth talent there.

i'm watching TyC, which is like ESPN, in argentina. they are saying that they would have much preferred to play against portugal instead of mexico. 15 hours, 38 minutes, and counting...

i also like australia's chances against italy. australia have a good team with quality forwards. the only reason they're not in the world cup more often is that they've had to face uruguay or argentina in the last phase of qualifying.

italy is overrated right now. and australia is underrated.
