Just want to update after 2 winters:

    (1) vass grain leather boots couldn't hold up
    (2) Soldaini cord leather boots are doing ok but had some trouble with salt
    (3) hanwag gruntens are killing it

I've owned 2 pairs and they're the best footwear I've owned. Loads cheaper than designers too

Have a German milsurp pair made by Hanwag, must be at least 20-30yrs old judging by the design and they basically look like new. Absolutely bombproof.

Does Vass still make stuff like those cordovan shit-kickers posted a while back ?

Those boots looks good. What is your size in the hanwag gruntens versus the Vass boots?

I'm a 43.5 F(normal width) in Vass' F last and a size 10 in Viberg's 2030 last. Unfortunately there's no retailer near me to try the Hanwag's on.

Anyone still looking for stylish winter boots?

I've had this exactly same problem and just discovered the forum so I wanted to share what I found. I found these waterproof chelseas from Cole Haan. I think they would hold up to a harsh Montreal winter if you do obvious things like avoid jumping into puddles of slush and walk only on shovelled sidewalks, head to work, etc.

They come in Black or Brown and have found them for $250 CAD with tax and shipping included.

    What do you guys think?

Cole Haans look good in photos, but generally feel cheap in real life. How are the soles, and is the boot lined?

Actually they look exactly as pictured in the photos. Soles also looked good. Not lined but I dont get cold easy so no worries for me. I returned them though because of what people on here said about Cole Haans
