Wait, what? How is Stitchy's fit today substantially different than yesterday's or the day before or whatever it is that Douglas is combining about?

more texture, more pattern, more interest.

didn't address a few other things (fit) but at least it wasn't a snoozer.

also i'm tired of fighting the circle jerk.

i dont see what you are talking about regarding circle jerk, douglas. this thread has been pretty steady. when people dont like an aspect of a fit, they say so. when they think it sucks, they say so. when they find it not good or bad, just safe but ok, they say so. and when they like a fit, they also say so.

i have never understood this idea that when a group of people in a thread seem to to enjoy what other people are posting for any length of time, it all of a sudden has to be a circle jerk, and OH MY LAWD MAKE IT STOP!!!

when people all join in bitching about someone elses circle jerk, essentially they are just creating their own new circle jerk of negativity. its no different, it just sounds cooler to hate on positivity.

re: fit, the OP states explicitly this thread is not about fit. always has been that way. and i think it goes a long in way into what has kept this thread going and not just turning into another WAYWRN. its just about good, tasteful, coherent top block combinations. or the opposite in the case of fail. nothing more, nothing less.

Hey guys, gonna make my first solid attempt at the Good Taste Thread in a few weeks, trying to pick out a tie. Suit is CG (straight up worsted wool, no sheen at all) with subtle red pinstripes. Shirt is a purple micro gingham with a white contrast collar. I'm thinking solid navy grenadine tie and a maroon PS, probably a paisley of some sort.

    Thoughts?

Ax(el)man looks good but no way is POW flannel CBD. Less so with a green windowpane / watermarkpane.

Definitely not UCBD, but I bet that suit flies at most businesses which still expect to see employees in a suit. Plus, he said the green is nearly invisible. (It's certainly was not visible to me in that picture...)

Definitely a white shirt or possibly very pale blue. I'm not sure red pinstripes are in good taste, but we shall see. I'd avoid a red pocket square of any shade with a suit that has red pinstripes. White linen may be your friend here.

Too much contrast in that glen plaid. Dark grey - black GP is CBD (outside SanFran). Navy - black probably also works.

Thanks for the tips guys. Though the suit is out for alterations right now, I have the vest here (which I'm planning on leaving out) so I thought I'd give you an idea of what the fabric looks like.

Shots are at 4 feet and 4 inches respectively, and accurately depict color and texture. Any further away and I'm reasonably sure the suit would simply appear as a gray. Once I get it back (assuming the fit is decent) it's off to reweaving! The suit itself is an old (Definitely defunct before the internet started to exist) piece of bespoke tailoring out of Rome. Normally, I wouldn't go for red pinstripes either, but the milanese buttonhole on the lapel just called to me <3

I agree with this. This is probably the only suit that I own that I would never wear to a client meeting. The green windowpane thing is invisible - I just think a PoW pattern like this is never going to be CBD. A grey or navy suit with a self glen plaid (if that makes any sense) would probably work as CBD.
