    sorry, i dont see how this addresses addresses the small stripe/large neat, issue. am i missing something?

    My interpretation of Manton's answer:
    Two lage patterns = bad combo
    Two small patterns = so-so
    Small stripe/large neat ("varying the scale") = prefered combination

    i love the suit and tie, dont mind the PS, i like the tie on Manton, but i can never spring for those chunky knits. my loss.

    Stitchy, are you opposed to the chunky knit or just unsure and don't want to sink a lot of cash into an experiment? If the latter, buy one from Lands End. Cheap and of decent quality. If you like, wonderful. If not, no real harm done.

    they are that item, that every time i see one i think, "should i get that? nah, it looks too chunky for a dress tie with a jacket, not me." and then i see it on someone, and i think, "man, that looks great, i need one!" and i has a sad.

    Look, it would be the wrong tie to wear with Harris tweed but that's a city flannel, looks like a worsted flannel actually, not even that napped, it's fine

    How the idiot can wear that in this humidity is another matter
