The Deer Hunter moved me like no other movie the first time I saw it. I just watched it a few weeks ago and it is still very powerful.

Your usual Holocaust films and such as well.

Taegukgi was reminiscent of saving private ryan, however Taegukgi lacks the subtlety and tact that saving private ryan has.

Many great movies mentioned.
Ones not mentioned

Henry V (kenneth branagh)
Raging Bull
Citizen Kane, It's a wonderful life (ultra cliche)

+1 to all the war/war related movies

Sorry can't remember the name but it was a foreign film of the year winner about a Japanese monk who lived in a small house on a river. A criminal on the run fled Tokyo and lived with him for a while gaining virtue, etc and eventually went back to civilization a new man giving himself up to the authorities. It was an amazing movie that I would buy if I ever find the title.

This movie was called Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. It was a South Korean movie. The criminal was the the apprentice of the master of that floating monastery. He lost his path when he entered the world of materialism. I am glad to hear someone else enjoyed this movie--it really touched me as well. So that is the title, so please, buy it

I wonder what kind of reactions i'd get if I said Les Mis (the movie with Ethan Frome).
