I think you have the people on this thread a bit confused. Are you asking what color to get a croc/gator shoe/wallet/belt/etc in? Or what color to use when cleaning it?

Yes I believe I have made everyone confused and I am truly apologize.

I'm not exactly sure what you meant by " What color to use when cleaning " but my question involves your best opinions on what color to get in alligator leather leather goods. I'm buying an alligator leather bill-fold wallet but unsure what color to pick. I'm looking for a patina for when I use this wallet for many years so I'm uncertain on what color will patina and not.

Cognac with high glaze finish looks great years in.

    Cognac is good color.

I was wondering why you picked glaze over matte?

Just personal preference, I like the feel and look. The fakes seem to typically use matte as well, my opinion only.

I am in this camp. Today there are a lot of heavy dyes used on reptiles. It covers the leather to an extent and the depth of the subtly different colors is often lost. Reptile skin is so great because it is always naturally "antiqued" and will appear slightly different in different light.
