    You chose... Wisely!

To be honest, I'm not really into most ambient and drone, though I listen to a hell of a lot of it and it probably dominates my listening habits. I'm really into sound design, so naturally I often gravitate towards more textured variants of drone and ambient out of interest in recording, foley, and synthesis. Koner is, in my opinion, far more sophisticated than a lot of his contemporaries, especially the more melodramatic folks who subscribe to ambient clichés and, even worse, those who make sugar-ambient and "dark" ambient. That is all so theatrical and phony. It amazes me that, for such quiet and spatial music, very few are able to employ any restraint just lack elegance.

It is just so rare that "ambient" achieves that level of taste and maturity.

As a fan of dark ambient, of which I posted some albums, I will pretend you didn't say that. :)

I'm not saying it's all bad, because I listen to a ton of it. Again, ambient and drone dominates my listening habits. I was just saying that there's a lot of crap to dig through in the bin before you find something that isn't simply an genre-drowned stylistic exercise. I hate to be cliche myself and bring up Robert Rich, who's work I have mixed feelings about, but have you ever heard his after-market score to the movie Stalker (w/ Lustmord), or Below Zero? Or Jeff Greinke's Cities in Fog albums?.

This is a great album, more SD compositional than ambient. Paul Schutze - Apart:

PS - Are you into Tod Dockstader? I've always wondered why everybody forgot about him. He's been around longer than Christ and his work has gotten better with age.
