why? simply because both are space movies in back-to-back years? 12 years a slave followed Lincoln and won best picture

Sci fi doesn't typically win let alone two years in a row. Movies about slavery though...whole other can of worms.

    Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf

First time seeing it... It is quite a dialogue and Taylor and Burton are at their best.

Do you think there are couples like that?

    Cheers

I saw Birdman, you know I just didn't like it near as much at the 90 something rotten tomatoes score. I thought Whiplash was considerably better.

Apart from a scene with some nice tank on tank action (using the world's last, still rolling, Tiger tank), this was rather forgettable.

Agreed. Some good acting, but the screenplay was just OK with some forced passages. Directorially, I thought it was a bit pretentious and tried to do too much.

Saw all the love for Band of Brothers earlier in the thread, and thought that I would recommend the German miniseries "Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter" for those that liked BoB.

It looks at the war from different perspective, it's maybe not as great as BoB, but still defenitely worth watching.

Made multiple WTF faces throughout the entire movie. I'm still not sure if I liked it or even understood it. What came first the chicken or the egg?

    Some animated films

    Paprika / Papurika
    [IMG]

Was weird but enjoyable. Will need to re-watch.

Garden of Words / Kotonoha no Niwa
    [IMG]

This movie was absolutely mesmerizing. I will definitely need to re-watch again. Wish it was a longer film though. PSA: Perhaps some CM guys would enjoy this (don't want to give it away...go see it!)

If you're not really anime and had to choose one, definitely Garden of Words.

    edit:
Watch them in Japanese w/ subtitles instead of the English dub

I thought Predestination was pretty original and interesting take on temporal paradox. There were some really odd sections like Space Corps and what the intended function of that is. My brother got really hung up on that, but I think the idea is that due to the Agency that period of the US has changed drastically in certain ways vs our history.

    I enjoyed it.

Paprika is weird but also a movie I enjoyed watching, reveling in the absurd oddities that can only come about through (Japanese) animation.

I'm sure it was beautiful, but I've already forgotten about it. Sorry.

Loogle is the funniest thing ever.

Idk, I liked it a lot. Would have been even better if it was a true story. Also, peoples head getting exploded by tank rounds.

This had just the right amount of quirkiness and awkward moments to make it thoroughly enjoyable. Great performances from the 3 leads, specially Michelle Williams, who is impossible not to fall for here.

thanks for the rec this looks interesting never heard of it before watched gravity last night enjoyed it very much. this after watching interstellar just the week before. these 2 films really awakened an appreciate for space and the appreciation of the unknown and discovery of it. I thought gravity was beautifully made and directed. alfonso cuaron deserved every ounce of that award
