This has been on my rewatch list since I saw it the night it opened...I got myself into madmen so my movie watching hasnt been that high lately.

However that being said the website I watch Madmen on wasnt loading last night so I started the new superman movie,,,good an hour in, though the first 10 mins or so seemed rushed.

"Bullet to the Head"

  • Top five.
  • When you use every cliche possible for New Orleans... #winning
  • De-tuned bass and guitars plus harmonica through a distortion pedal = good stuff.
  • "If I ever catch you breaking the law again... you're going DOWN...."
    "Yeah. That'll be the day."

"Stolen"

  • Totally predicted the ending.
  • LOVED the allusions to "A Confederacy of Dunces" and "Con-Air." Tough to pull off references to two classics.
  • Nic Cage can still bring it!

On a more serious note.... I've noticed the onliners in thrillers were at their peak in the 80s. Now they just aren't as good. Like that's part of the appeal of the genre...

"Please don't bother my friend--he's dead tired" etc.

The original Robocop is awesome! I remember seeing the poster when it came out, with him standing with one foot out of the squad car, and thinking 'Wow, this looks ridiculous!', but it just worked. Not only is it a great action flick, but the snappy dialogue - especially between the suits in OCP - and the satirical bits - like having the news interrupted by ads (like the one for artificial hearts: 'Buy Jensen; buy Yamaha - remember: We care!') took it to the next level. Shame about the sequels (and the coming remake looks like crap).

today. Was kinda entertaining as long as you didn't stop to think about it. It had a great cast, but in some scenes it seemed like they were left to their own devices with poor results. It also had nicely executed action scenes and effects, but the story was beyond stupid and the 'reveal' was groan inducing.

Of the two, good old Robo is clearly the better movie :)

Edit: On returning here, the poster above didn't show, but it should be fixed now. Let me know if it still doesn't work.

saw identity thief last night. very entertaining. would recommend. the bateman and mccarthy tandem of quiet sarcastic humor and loud bang you over the head humor make for a great team.

Closer, Mike Nichols directed, Patrick Marber scripted from his own play. Very good performances. Clive Owen very impressive. Natalie Portman cute as ever. Great dialogue.

I loved Closer when I saw it, but it has been quite a while since I last watched it. I'm pretty sure I own the DVD; I might have to go back and see how it has held up.

Even though I like Jason Bateman, Identity Thief was probably the shittiest movie I've fast-forwarded through this year :-(

I'm pretty sure I enjoyed Closer as well when I saw it.

it was worth it just to see a person get hit in the face with a guitar. i need a gif of that. i will say though, im pretty easily entertained. it was not high theater, but i enjoyed it none-the-less.
